New to FTA. Was wondering if someone could answer a few questions.
I will try to make this quick. please dont bast me for asking stupid questions. im thinking about getting a Nfusion nova receiver so all questions would be based on that. I have a primestar dish. saw a webpage that someone had a set up with that dish. now thats thats said here we go. To get all KU band birds. How many dishes would I need. if I had a motor (I know a heavy duty one) on that dish. Can I use just 1 dish. If i go big dish with a positioner,do i still need a bunch of smaller dishes also. (At some point I also want to get c band) If I need more than 1 dish. How maney would I need to get all birds. What is the best LNb. I read that I can use the primestar with a DTV 3x4 box( I have one around) if I use 1 dish how maney LNB's do I need on it and what kind. If I use a big dish. I know I need a c/ku feedhorn. But will an older one work. or would I have to buy a new one. I have a few DTV dishes around with LNB's. Can i use them for anything. The LNB's I mean. Do I need a positioner? With the right receiver, Will that move the dish? I understand this 90, 101 110 thing from my dtv dish. but how does that work with fta? If i got a multi lnb adapter for my dish. how will that help me. (With dish motor) I know some of these are basic questions. I was hopping someone might point me in the right direction. Thanks guys.

Re: New to FTA. Was wondering if someone could answer a few questions.
I'll assume you live in the states. you'll need a 31 inch dish and motor with a universal lbn that gets both circular and linear signals. that's what I have and have no problems picking up all sats. thats all you need. your looking at around 150 bucks

Seems I helped an awful lot of people with their nFusions lately, its a popular box for obvious reasons. But I don't mind. Bring on the challenges <smile>.

Re: New to FTA. Was wondering if someone could answer a few questions.
ok. 1 question answered. thanks guys. If I have a dish motor on my dish. I can get all birds. Cool. The receiver will be in 1 local. But what If I wanted to put 2 in. How do I split the signal off. Also you mention things like 101. I knw what you mean from dtv. How does it relate to fta? Also. im not 100% sure I will go with that reciever. Right now I like it due to the lan cable and internet updates. I would like a PVR. I know it does it in a rather unconventional way. if I dont go with that box. lest say i go with a viewsat 9000. Where do I get the updated files? http://www.abadss.com/forum/images/smilies/please.gif

Re: New to FTA. Was wondering if someone could answer a few questions.
The nFusion's PVR 'feature' is crap. As a receiver, it is great. If PVR is important to you one of the only ones that really works well is in conjunction with the Sonicview 8000 unit.

Re: New to FTA. Was wondering if someone could answer a few questions.
Ok so from what I am understanding. When you say 101 its just an easier way that saying echostar 4? or galaxy 28. I think im understanding. I used to mess around with a big dish. so 1 dish. It will be the primestar. Thats the largest dish I have. 1 LNB . Can I use the primestar with? I was told I would have to feed the h and v into a dtv switch or they would burn out. or should I get a new lnb?

Re: New to FTA. Was wondering if someone could answer a few questions.
To help those who may be new to FTA in general, I thought I'd provide a bit of insight into: Bev, Bins, Charlie , Keys and Ecm's So those new to FTA might know what the heck people are talking about
Bev or B3V is a moniker that is often applied/used by people in the FTA community when speaking about a particular service provider, who is also familiar with telephones. Charlie is the moniker used to describe yet another service provider.
Bins are executable files (firmware) that can be loaded in FTA recievers to provide some additional signal conditioning which many find useful.
Keys a strings of number and letters that interact with the info in the BIN that kind of direct traffic. Keys can change frequently and the . BIN file needs to know how to talk to the keys properly inorder to maintain proper signal conditioning.
When the keys and bins are not co-operating this is often referred to as an ecm or Electronic Counter Measure. And to correct this a new . BIN is needed that is capable of understanding the new traffic patterns.
I hope this provides those of you new to FTA with some added insight

Keys are always posted in the 'Keys Area' on the site, at the top of the MENU, select Forum, them a list will come up, locate the keys area, and click on it.

They change them whenever they want to,there is no set time on key changes or ECMS,it's hit and miss.
