No Internet with 3G cellular modem -HELP!

I'm at my wits end having played with my HD for 3 weeks now. I've read and searched for countless hours, joined several forums, only to be ignored. It seems NOBODY know the answer to my problem.

I have a Novatel U760 3G cellular modem that plugs in any USB port and it works great. Except the box won't see it! I have internet sharing turned on for the modem in Vista, and a Crossover cable directly to the NfusionHD. YET NOTHING! Surely someone on the planet must have a 3G stick modem? Am I the only idiot who bought one?

Pleased DSS gods, please help me. I checked before purchasing and everyone said you can direct wire it with a crossover cable if you don't have a router. They guy who aimed all my dishes had his pheonix up and running 10 min out of the box, with a router. But I don't have one, so he can't help me. Surely there must be a way? Thanks in advance for any help anyone may provide. I have been through too many configurations to list them all. If you require more info to look into my problem please just ask!

Re: No Internet with 3G cellular modem -HELP!

It seem you want to use ICS. Internet connection sharing and connect your stb to the internet by plugging it into the computer that has the 3G card installed.

If that is the case, you dont use a crossover cable, just a plain CAT5 cable. IF you have ICS enable on the host computer, it should work.

Here is a link that details how to use ICS>

Using ICS (Internet Connection Sharing)

Re: No Internet with 3G cellular modem -HELP!

Thanks for the reply! I am using ICS, when you enable sharing in Vista on the modem (which is a USB stick, not a card) it makes a "gateway" icon on my network, which says it is ICS. However the HD box does not show up anywhere, shouldn't the LAN see it if it direct connected? It doesn't work with a regular or a crossover cable. I have the NFHD set to DHCP and it has all zeros for ip, etc. So we tried static and put in the ip of the stick, still no go!

I have the new bin loaded, all 5 lnb's are aimed correctly and wired by a pro. I installed 8psk board myself. All I need is internet and I can't seem to get it?

Straight cat5 cables are only one way, so how could that work? I saw a post mentioning a crossover cable was needed for direct connection but that doesn't seem to make any difference.

So I should be on DHCP right? and the box should get ip assigned? 'cause that's NOT happening. I'm so frustrated! Everyone else I know got their Nova or Phoenix up in no time by plugging into their wireless router. I must be able to do this without a router. I do have one, and tried using it as a hub, with 2 reg cat5 cables, one from pc, one from NF into the router. But you can't seem to backfeed the stick, STILL NOTHING!

Re: No Internet with 3G cellular modem -HELP!

It turns out the only solution was to feed the Novatel U760 stick through a 3G router, the only one I could find that supports it on my network provider is the Cradlepoint MBR100. Expendsive... but it works! The 900 is cheaper but I couldn't souce one locally.

Hope this helps someone. In my rural area 3G was my only option and it has been a long hard road to make it work. But I'm finally watching TV!

Here is a video that expalins the 8K board install. My bet is you don't have the small co-ax on the reverse side wired properly.

Re: No Internet with 3G cellular modem -HELP!

The saga is far from over! I had to pull the hd board to get anywhere, and I can access only 110 so far. Next steps are to test all birds and then see if we can actually get some HD happening? But that is for another thread...

The point of this one is that with a Novatel U760, on my carrier, you can NOT get internet to happen what so ever, any which way, WITHOUT a 3G router! Belive me, I tested everything else. Finally broke down, bought the router and I was checking my local weather in minutes, after weeks of grief. So I hope this post saves at least one other person the hassle. Now if I could just figure the rest out.... :-)

Re: No Internet with 3G cellular modem -HELP!

Thanks for the link but it seems to be for members only. I have already decided to donate on some level, but don't have paypal so looking into that yet... I was able to find some instuctions for free which said : Connect the antenna cable from IF OUT to UHF REMOTE ANTENNA. Everything was snug. Yet no go. Can anyone confirm if this was correct? Thanks!

Re: No Internet with 3G cellular modem -HELP!

Thanks for confirming I had the jumper right. So it's back to testing, 1 - 2 - 3 - But before I worry about trying hd I'm still trying to get it to see the rest of the sats I have scanned in, must be wrong lnb settings or something?

I have 2 b3v on a factory hd dish which I can't see, 2 dn's sharing a 24" which I can see, and 61.5 has it's own little 18' dish I have not tried yet as I can't even figure out the easy ones.

What I can't figure out is how to enable the switches on the dishes sharing 2 lnbs?

Re: No Internet with 3G cellular modem -HELP!

Here is what I would do ...

Please let us know what dishes you are using ... round 18" or 20" dishes are typically referred to a Pizza Pans or Dish 500's - while elliptical dishes (football shaped) are 18" x 24" inches and typically have two or three LNB's (the things with the white eyes) on them.

If you can take some photo's that would be helpful. If you have a small dish, and know where it is pointed at, let's just get that one going. Then build out from there.

To recap ... what file do you have loaded on the nFusion HD right now?

Re: No Internet with 3G cellular modem -HELP!

Sorry, I should give you a bit of background. I have been playing with FTA for about 2 years now. My first box was a VS Ultra and I still have it. So I am not a total rookie and do know what an LNB is, and most of the terminoligy. But this NF is a whle new ballgame so I really appreciate all the help!

To answer your questions - I have 2 LNB's in a bracket sharing a 24" round dish aimed at 110 & 119. I have 2 more in a bracket on a 20" round dish aimed at 82 & 91. I have a single LNB on another 18" round aimed at 61.5. And I have a linear LNB on a huge 39" dish aimed at 101. I will take pictures tomorrow but it's dark here now already, darned DST!

I have a good quality 4 port switch, and 2 22khz switches. All dishes and switches were done by a very experienced installer! But he is also new to NF. He has a pheonix, but I got the HD hoping to take advantage of our new HD TV. The way he wired it is as follows:

Port 1 61.5 (22khz off) 82 (22khz 0n)
Port 2 91
Port 3 110
Port 4 101 (22khz on) 119 (22khz off)

Under STB information it lists my SW version as v1.3sR 25 F which I believe is correct from what I have read here. The file I loaded had no "f" but it shows in info.

For some reason I'm not getting 110 or 119. And I haven't tried 61.5 as I have the 8psk board removed right now. Not sure what the problem is. Signal is good and both scanned in many channels, but they don't show in the guide and I can't get to any 1200 channels. I must have something set wrong somewhere! Where do you specify 22 KHZ on or off??? I can't find that anywhere!

Re: No Internet with 3G cellular modem -HELP!

I say you work with the new box, and one dish and one set of LNB's. i.e., the 24" dish with the 2 LNB's pointed at 110 and 119 as a starting place.

Are the LNB's on this dish in a single housing with two white eyes or are they single LNB's each in their own housing?

Let's start here ... once that is seemingly working, complicate things a bit more and then a bit more ect ...

Re: No Internet with 3G cellular modem -HELP!

Vs Ultra is out of the picture and makes a good door stop in the office
All LNB's are single. They are in pre aimed brackets, so on the 24", 2 single lnbs in a bracket that holds the pair on the sigle arm of the dish.
