I suffer seriously from rain fade / connection loss
I have an older Dish 500 with 2 legacy dual LNB on a yolk.
my S and Q are consistent 95-99 on all TSP, untill it rains. Rain gets kinda heavy here, but my dish goes out FAST and i loose everything. I don't know anyone who suffers loss like I do.
is this just an issue of an older set of LNB or what?

Re: I suffer seriously from rain fade / connection loss
This is usually caused by water leaking into the cone. Suggest wait till it dries out and then silicone around the white plastic covers. Other alternative - Replace the LNBs.

Re: I suffer seriously from rain fade / connection loss
and the heavy cloud cover could also be a factor as I too have the same problems sometimes with snow or heavy rains

One of your connections could be getting water in it also, not to mention the switch.

Could be several things adding up. An older set of LNB at 0.6 or 0.8 dB that can be replaced with 0.5 dB, signal loss from cheap or old coax or connectors.
But the very best thing to solve the problem of rain fade - a bigger dish. The Dish 500 is like 20 inches, get a 30 inch dish or a 36 or 39 inch dish and the problem will go away.

Re: I suffer seriously from rain fade / connection loss
Try the silicone solution first, that works , safe some money and then buy a new dish. Is your decision. Good luck.

Re: I suffer seriously from rain fade / connection loss
Thanks for that link creative! i'm right on the edge of an E and D3 zone on the map.
My S stays up in the 90's. it's the Q that goes to 0. I had a problem with connections once before so all of my connections and wires are new, and water tight with heatshirink. I will give a try with the silicone on the LNB's and wait for the next rain to report back on the issue.
thanks everyone for your input..
