Mexico reception

Hello .... I live in Mexico on the East coast about 400 miles south of Brownsville, TX. I currently have Star Choice Canadian sattelite t..v. which works really well down here but the programming SUCKS
The reason I haave this system is because Direct T.V. gives you such a hassle about using their system in Mexico ( from.. it won't work or it's illegal or franchise rights etc. ) All of the above is bull ... with the right setup and equipment it does work ...... but rather than go through all the hassle we went with Star Choice who doesn't ask any questions as long as we have a credit crad to charge the monthly payments to.

Anyway... the question is : With the right antenna ( dish ) will I be able to receive U.S. progamming in Mexico with Dish Network ?
Second: Will Dish Netwrk sell me a system .... receiver and antenna etc. with the knowlege that I will be taking the system to Mexico and installing it myself .... or Third : Will I have to go through the rigamarole of having a dealer set up the system for me somewhere in the States ( I keep a residence in Florida ) and then as soon as it's activated .... disasemble it and move it to Mexico and then re-aim the dish and log on again ?
Fourth ; I currently have .85 M dishes for my Star Choice system ..... would they work with a Dish Netwrk receiver ? ( so I wouldn't have to buy a new antenna(s) ?
If I set up the system in the U.S. ..... would the sattelite they assign me work in Mexico or would I have to switvch to a different sattelite.
If yes, I have to switch .... how much of a legal / permission required hassle would that be ?

Any help with these questions or other pertinent advice you can offer would be appreciated

Re: Mexico reception

I live in Baja about 50 miles S of Ensenada - I have some friends where one already had dish installed in his residence in Calif and what he did is order 3 additional boxes for $4.95 a month and my friends then installed the boxes in their residences here - they installed there own 18" dishes w/2lnbs for 110 and 119 and they work fine. By the way in order to avoid any difficulties they just added up the yearly total of the bill and devided it four ways and each paid the actual subscriber for the year - since they all were aware that the PPV's would become available sooner rather then later on the premium channels and they could live without porn there were no additional charges to deal with - I believe it cost them each about $25 a month for all the channels incl all the premiums - If there is not an iks solution to the n3 problem soon then I also have friends that have agreed to do the same. Not sure about getting the equipment in mexico from dish - only sky is available here in baja to my knowledge but you can inquire and if they give you any problems just have it delivered to your us residence. I believe you can get the box or boxes 1 dish w lnb(s) up to so many feed of cable for free along with your sub - I think you can tell them that you want the equipment but will install it yourself - then just bring it down or ship it to your address in Mexico (I'm sure you are aware that if you ship it - there are chances that it will be 2010 before it's delivered).

Reply,
Thanks for the info. The main difference i see between your situation and mine is the distance south of the border. You are 5o miles and I am 400 miles but then if you are using an 18" dish and I am using a 36" dish, ...that should make up for the difference in distance.
I would not be buying anything from Dish in Mexico. I would be buying direct from Dish in the U.S. and either telling themm what I intend to do, or NOT telling them and just do it anyway.
This brings up the question ....when you initiually aim your dish and log on to activate your account, do you have to do this by phone or can it be done over the Internet. If you have to use the phone then I would have to do it the States which brings up the next question..... will they let me select the satellite which will work best in Mexico or will I be stuck with whatever they allocate to me ?
If I am stuck with a satellite that only has coverage for the U.S., how would I change to a satellite that gives coverage in Mexico. I would probably be doing this change from Mexico and without being able to do it over the Internet, it would be difficult to keep a good connection using Skype on my computer ..... I have no phone in Mexico

Any more thoughts
