help with dish

ok so I am rying to get 91w nimiq with a new dish went to dishpointer have it set correctly(i think) and now am at the phase of fine tuning, I read in one of the stickys that if I go to a channel when it comes up I am pointed in the right place, the problem is that I scan channels on my Nfusion and get nothing because there is no lock...so how can I get the channels to come up to test it on my Nufusion or is there a different way to get it pointed right?

Re: help with dish

As you skew the dish the angle of your reseption sweeps as well.
Looking down the arm for your compass azimuth is not enough, the reflection is well above that.
As you lockon and scan you may need to deduce what sat your scaning by the channels it provides, this is true if you receiver doesnt give the sat ID.

Re: help with dish

set your skew at 90 degrees first. then use your compass. With the singnal locked using whatever meter you have, ease into the rest of the dish settings. Easy on the elevation to azimuth changes as one adversly effects the other when skewed, remember that the elevation and azimuth are still arranged to true horizontal and vertical on the static arm mount regardles of the skew setting. Bottom line the skew settings can create a arc of reception if used alone.

Re: help with dish

Not to hijack this thread. Can one of experience give me the advantage of a single circular LNB maximized to quality signal level at skewed to match to the synchronous satellite arc versus set to true horizontal?

Re: help with dish

ok that still does not answer my question.
I read on a sticky that if I tuned in a channel from the sat i was trying to get and slowly moved my dish until I got a picture on that channel that it would be the easiest way to point my dish.
The issue I am having with this is that my nfusion wont catch channels for me to tune into?

Re: help with dish

I haven’t read the original sticky and it may be used out of context but.
There would be too much time lag in this sticky advice on a nFusion.
Best to get, at least, a $15.00 meter to use when aiming.

Re: help with dish

j rudy - Since you are looking for only Nimiq 91, no skew is required.

Follow these instructions.

1. Make sure you Pole is Totally Vertical (Use a spirit level to make sure it is dead straight on all sides.)
2. Set the elevation to what is recommended by Dishponter.
3. Using a compass set the magnetic Azimuth to the approximate position.
4. Now in the Receiver go into Antenna Settings and set it the the following.

satellite Nimiq 1,3 91W
LNB power: on
LNB type: single
LNB frequency: 11250
TP : 12224
22khz.: off
search options: all
network search: on
Diseqc : off
motor: disable
Legacy switch: Off

5. Now if you look at the Signal and Quality, keep adjusting the dish moving slowly to the left or right and watch for quality. When they turn green. Stop. Now slowly move to maximize the Q signal. Lock the bolts at the back.
6. Now adjust the elevation till you get the best Q reading. Anything over 65% is fine.Youwill now see 91.0W locked .

Now go down to serch for all channels and it will do a search. You should get approx. 428 channels.
