Help With First Dish!!!
So i got my first stb yesterday. installed cables and dish. Im only getting 60-69% signal and no quality. I started messing with my dish again today. I set my dn 1000.2 according to my location and using dishpointer.com.
Any ideas what im doing wrong? (i used to install cable as a job so i know my connections are good.) i dont really care for getting 129 at this point either. 110 &119. both average about 65% signal. HELLLP Please.

Re: Help With First Dish!!!
S is the connection from the receiver to lnb. Q is the signal strength. Have you set a skew to the dish? Use trans freq 11224 for checking 110 and 12239 for checking sig on 119.

Re: Help With First Dish!!!
your signal is telling me you have good connection the quality says your not hitting sat ,you need to keep going with it until you find it.make sure all your settings are right in the reciever.

Re: Help With First Dish!!!
Do not skew your dish yet.
Try to get 110 first(You should get this Q with the LNB in the middle).
After you catch the good Q for 110 lock the position and than go for 119 just using the skew positions.
And dont forget stay on TP 12224 to Q on 110
TP 12239 to get Q on 119

Re: Help With First Dish!!!
My 2 cents, take it for what it's worth (I'm still a newbie)
With my 1000.2 dish the settings in the owner's guide & those found on Dishpointer were basically worthless when it comes to skew.
I'm no guru but, in my mind, we have to stop and consider a couple of things:
1. we're talking about circular LNBs - skew doesn't really apply, this ain't my BUD;
2. we're working with a fixed dish.
Bottom line:
Lock on the satellite located in the central orientation to those which you hope to receive, get the best reception you can there.
Then the skew adjustment will let you adjust the relationship between your multiple fixed LNBs and the centerpoint of your dish.
In my case my dish skew does not match any of the angles Dishpointer said they should be, 40+ degrees off on 119 for example.
What do I care? I'm locked on 110,119, and 129 by rotating the dish using the skew adjustment.

Re: Help With First Dish!!!
ok. thanks for the input everyone. i just got back from radio shack with a signal tester. it shows i had 110. i adjusted so i got 119 with a great signal. then i checked both sats again with the sat finder. both signals show great. so ill mess with my box. my elevation was off just a little. I will mess with skew afterwards. Thanks for the tip.
So what happens now if my stb still doesnt get quality??? what else can i change?
i now have 75 % with no quality. what am i missing here?
in my tp list i select number 1 which is 12224 for 110. still 0%
is this where i chose tp? or somewhere else?

Re: Help With First Dish!!!
Good question, I haven't figured out the answer yet.
Again based on my experiences, trying to fine-tune two satellites at the same time is a mistake. Been there, done that.
Once I decided to at least get reception on something, I concentrated on getting the best possible picture on one satellite. At first I got a strong signal but what I felt was poor quality on 119. After I got done fooling with both the elevation and angle there I just locked her down and left it. Later I tried to get more satellites. I didn't touch anything but the skew from that point.
As I said, worked for me anyway.
My problems since that time have been centered on changing STBs. A whole nother story

Re: Help With First Dish!!!
Congratulations!!! That is what testing is all about. Learning to do it yourself. Great job. I would recommend marking your el and az on the pole your dish is on, so you know where you started before making any adjustments.
Looks like you are there and you may only need very minor tweaks to peak your signal.

Re: Help With First Dish!!!
Don't think so either,
You can see the STB on your network right?
Stupid suggestion, but try shutting down your PC, router, and STB and restarting them.
Don't just hit the power buttons, but unplug them if need be. You want to force them to to search for all new equipment and settings.
