Dish 500 Twin LNB HELP
I have one dish with 2 LNB's. 119 works but I can't get 110.
I have one coax connected to the 119 LNB (left side).
1. Do I need to just leave the coax where it is to get both the 119 and 110?
2. Which sat. do i need to find first 119 or 110?
3. After finding the first sat. Can I just cover up that LNB to locate the other sat.?
4. After first sat. is located and signal is strong, Can the second sat. be located just by Skew? or wil azamith need changing? elevation need changing?
Thanks. This site is great. Glad I found it.

Re: Dish 500 Twin LNB HELP
1. Do I need to just leave the coax where it is to get both the 119 and 110?
A: yes, leave coax as is.. both SATs are pulled over one coax
2. Which sat. do i need to find first 119 or 110?
A: zero your dish skew.. lock onto 110.. then skew your dish as per settings shown on dishpointer site to pull in 119
3. After finding the first sat. Can I just cover up that LNB to locate the other sat.?
A: cover up? plz clarify.. see step #2 above
4. After first sat. is located and signal is strong, Can the second sat. be located just by SKEW ? or wil azamith need changing? Elevation need changing?
A: yes, by skewing only you should pull 119 (step #2 above)

Re: Dish 500 Twin LNB HELP
Need clarify the LNB.. twin refers to having two coax outputs for two receivers.. but to pull two SATS you need a Dish Pro (or Pro Plus) that has two-2 LNBS (twin eyes) integrated.. pix below
or, do you have a single legacy twin LNB like this (see pix below)
Which is it, pix A or B

Re: Dish 500 Twin LNB HELP
satmaxx,
I have Pic. A two eyes. Exactly like your pic.
When do I have to select the check switch, on the setup screen page (on the tv screen)? Do I even have to do this step?
Thanks

Pictue A is a DP Plus with 3 ports (2 out & 1 in)
The LNB you likely have is not this one shown, but prolly the DP Twin. (with reported 2 ports)
Now the question is: is it a Legacy or DP? (Legacy has no marking for id, the DP says in big black letters - DP on the side of LNB)
My point is, all the ports (one the LNB I think you have) carry the same signals.
The best way to test/setup a dish is to use single (1 eye) LNBs...and only use 1 LNB to setup the dish & don't use any switch. (run direct to ird)
Note: The first thing to do is determine your skew angle for your zip code area. (use my links for dish setup)
Now set the skew & never move it again. (static setting)
Now when you face the dish & LNBs are in your face, the one LNB will sit lower (on the horizion) than the other...this will be 110W. (as it sits lower in the sky than 119W) (the numbers indicate their respective location in space) * Hook your signal meter to this bird 110 & forget about 119 for now.
Once you find 110W with a signal meter (ebay $20.) you will get 119 automatically. (remember the skew?)
* After you get 110, you can change the LNB to the 2-eye twin or quad, and install a switch (if needed) most 2-eye LNBs have the switch built in.

plz elaborate on what you mean by "check switch"
If I understand your quetion..
- The switch to manage receiving two SATs is built into the LNB.. no separate/external switch is needed for either the Dishpro or Dishpro Plus LNBs
- There are no settings in your TV that will affect ur SAT reception or stb config.. the TV is merely a dumb monitor in this case..

Re: Dish 500 Twin LNB HELP
satmaxx,
Correct I have the two eyes, 3 places to connect a coax (not sure if they are input or output). The LNB's housing says DP in black on the sides ( I am certain it is a DP500). My one coax from receiver goes directly into the most left connector on the left eye if you are looking at it from the front, just like looking at your pic. A.
The check switch I am asking about is in one of the menu items which appears on the screen. It is all done internally by selecting the option to
check switch.
So what I have now working is the 119 only. I have everything set as recommended based on my location. The azimith seems to be close to what was recommended but the elevation is different. I used the small signal finder (purchased from radio shack) to receive the strongest signal, then tightened everything up. Also skewed dish to recommendation based on my zip code.
If I undrstand correctly you are asking me to start over and locate the 110 sat.?? That is my problem (i think) I can't locate 110.
Is there a way to totally eliminate finding the 119 sat?
Did you say that either one of my LNB's will pick up any sat. (119, 110)even if it is the wrong one? (I believe I have read this several times)
Sorry for asking so many questions. You must be very patient. Thank you.
I am taking notes on all this when I get home this weekend, I want to tackle this for the last time. HA HA

Re: Dish 500 Twin LNB HELP
I believe all you need to do is define your diseq setting in the sat set up menu. set 119 to port 1 and 110 to port 2. Set the LNB type to OCS-DP. Let us know...

Re: Dish 500 Twin LNB HELP
Cheyenne, focus on JC's recommendation first and verify your stb settings are correct for picking up two SATs (settings vary by stb); which brand are you using
