Got my New 4000
Set up my new CW4000 last night. Went very well, and pretty simple i thought.
Once i started playing around after the TV was working I ran into some issues.
I am getting the Valid key issue as well. I found in some googling i might need to edit "/captive/vdr/plugins/sc/SoftCam.Key" with some valid keys. Then i read some more that turning on "AutoRoll" would keep you from having to manually enter keys. I can't find where this feature is. Is it in the configurations or setups somewhere....also, did i understand that correctly about the "autoroll" function?
Also I am not getting any HD, but after some furter reading, i think that might be done for now with N3, but wasn't sure.
Thanks in advance for all your help. You don't know it, but I have been reading the site for a cople months learning about his hobbie and I beleive it is why the set up was so simple...

Re: Got my New 4000
the hd is down, wont be back for awhile, the autoroll should be in your settings or options and yes you should have it on. after you do that leave on ch 0200 to get your channels and populate the epg.

Re: Got my New 4000
oh great....ok, i will check, maybe it is already on. If so will that stop that 'looking for valid kep' message on some channels.
ALso, i didn't know about the channel 200 thing...thanks. I guess thats the case for any location? I am using 110 and 129 right now. They seem to give me teh best results (even though i ahve only been hobbying for 12 hours

Re: Got my New 4000
Once you have autoroll on, it should find the key and you should not see the "looking for valid key" message anymore.
Ch 200 is CNN and is a good channel to leave the TV on so it can find the key.

Re: Got my New 4000
looks like your doing fine, 129 is hd, right? you probably wont get much there if thats the case.
I use 119 but as of last night some channels started to go out on 110 and 119 as well. looks like n3 will be in full effect soon. dont be discouraged, it will be fixed in time. there is always the option to pick up some true fta with a 33" dish (I think), although those channels are not nearly as good I hear but at least its something.
if you need more help or have any more questions just ask.

Re: Got my New 4000
I am not sure about 129 and being HD. Since it is out, i am not to worried about it.
So when channels go out, do we need to rescan to remove them or do you jsut manually remove them.
I also bought this box because of the N3 coming, but it has the card sharing capability....maybe start boning up on that? I have read about it, but seems very complicated.....that will be another topic though
So back to the satellite thing. Do you guys rescan often or do you just let it go I wasn't sure if I needed to check for new channels or something.. I am also assuming a rescan needs to be done after new bin is installed?

Re: Got my New 4000
Here is one off our current topic. I have a bunch of movies and tv shows of various formats (mostly mkv and avi). They are on another computer. I have a 1TB HDD coming for this 4000. Can I move them using my LAN from my Desktop to the CW4000. I jsut spent all mornign going through the entire Captive Works forum and I can't seemt o get my answers there, but it is Friday after all , maybe i am to anxious
I can repost this in another thread if that is appropriate.

Re: Got my New 4000
I do not believe you can transfer them, the way the hard drive is set up is mainly for the dvr and when it is installed the unit will wipe off anything on it. I have not looked to far into it but from setting mine up thats what I encountered.

Re: Got my New 4000
It comes with a skywalker which will handle all of the 8psk and many more, it only comes with one but you can add another.

Re: Got my New 4000
I own a CW3000 which uses a external "Skywalker 1" that plugs into one of the many usb ports.
It has worked exceptional for several years.
I too added a large HDD into the case and upgraded the processor and memory capacity.
The only complaint I have on the CW3000 is that you cannot power the unit up with the remote, power down is OK, but to power up one must walk to the unit and press the power button on the receiver.
Glad to hear your is working now.

Re: Got my New 4000
I leave mine on all the time unless I go away for a couple of days, this way the epg stays up to date for 7 days. When you shut down your tv the unit will sense it and go to into a sleep mode after a while.
