Re: How to setup captiveworks 4000
this a cut and paste. i used when i set mine up, hope this helps
Compilation of my setup experience, mostly from other posts consolidated with additional help information.
How To Load SonicView SV-4000 With USB Memory Stick
________________________________________
1 DOWNLOAD latest bin FILE you need to write onto receiver.
2 UNZIP FILE
3 SAVE UNZIPPED FILE TO Flash drive(MEMORY STICK with USB connection)
Turn on SonicView 4000 using the power button located on the receiver, otherwise tv is black.
4 PRESS MENU button on remote(if tv still black the receiver is not on)
5 INSERT MEMORY STICK INTO FRONT USB PORT
6 CHOOSE INSTALLATION
7 SCROLL DOWN AND CHOOSE USB MASS STORAGE
8 PRESS OK
9 SCROLL DOWN AND CHOOSE CORRECT bin FILE you want to load = “SV4000_Pv0125_01Feb2007_b.bin” as of February 3, 2007. Auto-rolling keys.
10 PRESS RED BUTTON at the bottom of the remote AND FILE WILL LOAD from Flash drive.
11 DON'T TOUCH anything while the files are transferring!!!! The FILE WILL LOAD AND the Receiver WILL REBOOT ON ITS OWN. I waited a few minutes then turned the receiver power on.
When just updating to a newer bin file it did not bring up a signal immediately, had to wait a few minutes before the black screen went away. Thought this delay might be due to the keys changing. Also sometimes when the keys changed the autoroll did not work. Just rebooted and came up fine.
Then go find and load the satellite(s) you want. If you know where your physical dish is pointed do not autoscan for all satellites as there are hundreds. Takes a few minutes to navigate and download all the channels as per the manual.
Channel # fix: The first time setup only you will need to: Go into your Menu, then to System Settings. Now scroll down to User Options. Click on that and then turn on Channel Number by SID and Sort by SID. My first attempt put a “2” in front of every channel eg. 2400, not 400. Then Press the “SAT” button on your remote and then select the satellite provider name, this sinks up channel numbers. This was the easy fix for the channel # correction and only have to do the "SAT" button fix from now on after every update.
EPG = channel guide listing downloaded. For best results to populate EPG. Try putting channel on 200 or 195 and let it sit for about 5 minutes and it should populate about 3 days. But it is impossible to get more then that. Because some providers do not do 7 day EPG.
VSKeys 2.3 is the key grabber if you need to manually enter the keys when the auto-roll feature stops working. Eg. tv is black because the keys changed.
After being up and running successfully and more familiar with the Menu options. Discovered you could make a copy of the working setup files on the receiver by copying all files back onto the USB flash drive for a backup. Created a file “dxall_4000.bin” on the USB drive which was the exact same size 2049KB as the original factory bin file. Copied to my computer for the backup. Hopefully never need it but just in case. Can also copy each of the three setup files separately, I did this as well.
Set the Menu option to automatically change to Dolby sound but on some channels there was no sound with this setting. Most likely due to my hifi Yamaha receiver which is set up for Satellite TV reception cannot automatically detect this.
Setting Up your SonicView receiver for the first time NON-USB, much more involved:
Step 1:
1. Ensure your using a null modem cable and it is hooked up at both ends and your serial port,
2. Your unit is plugged into an outlet and turned off at the rear of the unit
Step 2:
1. Download fresh copy of
a. Downloader
b. Factory bin (just in case)
c. Current bin (See our files section for most current bin)
2. Place all files in the same folder as loader is located and unzip/decompress them all.
Step 3:
1. Switch Off your SonicView receiver using the switch at the back
2. In your PC Start downloader program
3. Click STB -> Connect Config for Com 1 (or whichever port you're using)
4. Click STB -> Download file (PC->STB)
5. Select the most current bin to upload to your receiver.
6. Window appears entitled Data Transfer ->
7. Turn SV1000 on from the rear power button and do not touch it until transfer is complete and SV1000 reboots.
8. Disconnect null modem cable
Step 4:
1. Switch off receiver from the back and set it up with your TV and antenna.
2. Turn TV on
3. Select Dish Settings and configure all your satellites
4. Scan satellites using the red button (Scan Sat)
Step 5.
1. Exit all menus and wait for Autorroll to Kick-In
2. Autoroll can take up to ten minutes the first time. Until the keys roll
Notes:
you will have a black screen and red message No Service or Scrambled appearing. Do not panic, have faith. if after ten minutes no video, hard boot from rear once and video should come in.
When loading load the factory bin, current bin, satinfo, channel lists in that order when required.
WARNING: DO NOT TURN OFF RECEIVER IN THE MIDDLE OF A FILE TRANSFER
Manually Change Keys: sv-4000 now this is the same for the sv-1000
Use the follow instructions below to enter the new keys in your Sonicview 4000 manually:

ONLY the active keys have to be changed, if you prefer to change both sets of keys, go right ahead.

Re: How to setup captiveworks 4000
What I did to set mine up, was to get the signal on both sats, do a scan, then load the files. the other set ups take some time to read about in the manual

Re: How to setup captiveworks 4000
You will probably have to do a scan on 119 again, and make sure you hit the save after the scan.
