Blind scan or sat scan

Blind scan or Sat scan?
by Valiant
Now heres a question that has been brought out several times in many forums
people have been told not to blind scan but sat scan and visa versa
To find out which to do you first have to understand what each is and then decide
which to use and when
Lets start at the beginning here:
every fta reciever is capable of both types of scans
basically sats that transmit signals do so in different frequency ranges and are divided up
into transponders on different frequency ranges and then further divided up into virtual channels.
each transponder may or may not carry video/audio/data transmissions
Now with this brief explaination: every mordern fta system (be it Viewsat/coolsat pansat etc)
has a pre loaded sat file in its firmware
this is usaually load by the manufacturer and was correct at the time it was originally loaded
it will contain a list of at the current sats avaliable and that sat list will contain such things as sat
postion lnb frequency=c band=ku band=and transponders as well as options to change such things as lnb type
transponders/switch settings and a few other options
Again these were current at the time of loading and from time to time change as satellites are deleted due to no longer
being operational or even new sats are launched or used to replace.
Any way back to scannning
the sat lists are set and for blind scanning what actually happens is this
it will scan all frequency ranges in steps of mghz
from 3 to 16
this first starts at a complete range and adds to the memory once its been added it will scan all the transponders its recorded
first the complete horizontal transponder list it found then repeat the process for vertical
thus the reason it takes many many minutes to scan
it goes thru an exact process of searching for frequencies then scanning those for video/audio/data signals
if using a DishPro LNB, it will scan signals twice and will scan the same channels twice causing duplicates; If using Legacy or non-DishPro, you will not have this problem when blind-scanning.
Sat scan
almost the same setup here as in sat files/settings and the like
But heres the main difference
certain sats that are higher powered and thus require smaller dishs to recieve their signal have set transponders lists
that they transmit from. Most manufactorers put in just those transponders from those sats======so
whats that mean?
the reviever will only look for those transponders on the list and not look at any others thus the results are a much faster scan and no duplicates
it will not search for frequency at all ranges then save then then scan all
it is told look here and here only!
Hopefully you have a better understanding now
I have not mentioned here about adding sat lists here as it a matter of personnal choices>
from time to time sats come and go and transponders are active and not active or a sat list is to long IE= I dont use or cant view then so deleted them
sat lists in general are like channel lists
they are personalized to the users needs.

Re: Blind scan or sat scan
I want to chip in something; Is it possible for someone to duplicate a receiver using a receiver link for S/W xfer? I bought a receiver- Satlink from Manila, philliphines earlier this year becs they boasted it is universal and can bounce any code. On setting up, I found out that it is not capable of doing the job, and their is no support. When I joined this forum, I learned. Then, i bought SV4k + CW600 and since then, I've been up running. Therefore, may I make use of the now useless receiver- Satlink from "DBS-PH". I think they are basically for the Asians and not for America becs it is loaded with Agilla2 data. Can anybody help with explanations...?
Thanks.
