Twinhan 1020 No signal

Hi all. I am trying to get a twinhan 1020 going. I can't get it going for the life of me. I am very familar with FTA starting back with the old blackbirds and building my own JTAGS etc. Anyway I know the deal in terms of reading. At this point I have done so much reading on this forum and others. I have a great computer (dell precision 470) that I installed the card into. I have DirectX9.0 and i went through installing different codecs that I have. From what I would gather the codecs are for the picture anyway. I am concerned because I am still near the start. I cannot even get a scan going because I don't have a signal. I have tried DBVDream and ProgDVB and I cannot get a signal on either. I know my dish works because I have a 4 port DISeq switch that i use to test with from my working captiveworks 600s. I also tried the twinhan software just for fun and signal does come through on that. What the #@$% am I missing?

Hopefully this will save some of you a lot of time and frustration.

My setup:

Twinhan VisionPlus 1020 DVB-S pci
Windows XP Sp2
AMD 64 3500+
1 GB Ram
Pre-existing BEV 18" Dish

Most posts I came across suggested using MT(MyTheatre) or ProgDVB and provided rather complex instructions on installing wrappers and sundry plugins.

I'll be honest, while those two programs may have their strengths, I had nothing but problems with them. I finally had success with DVBDream/Emunation/Keyutils.

Steps:
1. Install your Twinhan as recommended in the manual with the software CD.

2. Download DVBDream (dvbdreamsetup_v1.4i.rar).

3. Extract and install but do not run. Make sure to run the ddreg.bat in the \dvbdream folder.

4. Download and install VC++ package from Microsoft. This is necessary for Emunation to function. Check the emunation zip file for link to the version of VC++ that you need.

5. Once that's installed, download Emunation (emunation 3.0.4.13. or latest version) to your desktop and extract it.

6. Right-click on the DVBDream shortcut on your Desktop and select properties. From the window that pops up, click "Find Target". This will open the containing folder for DVBDream.

7. Open the emunation 3.0.4.0 folder. There should be a folder named "Plugins", an internet shortcut to VC++ and a .dll named "pthreadVC2.dll". Copy this last file and paste it into the "C:\\dvbdream\" folder.

8. While still in the dvbdream folder double-click the Plugins folder. You find there a few files and 19 pip folders. Double click on folder "pip00". This is where we need to install the emunation plugin.

9. From the emunation folder, double-click the "Plugins" folder. Press ctrl+a to select all, ctrl+c to copy. Paste these in the pip00 folder.

10. From the dvbdream folder, go up on level back into the "Plugins" folder. Double-click "copy_all.bat". This batch file copies the contents of pip00 to all other pip folders.

11. Close all windows and launch dvbdream.

12. From the "Options" menu select "Transponders". From the transponders tab drop down list, select satellite Nimiq1 and click "OK".

13. From the menu select "Channel>Scan" and click the "Scan" button. This will take a while...just let the scan complete (I think it scans 62 transponders).

14. Once the scan is complete, let it sit on a channel for the keys to roll. You should have a full channel listing and assuming I haven't committed any glaring errors, you should be watching tv.

Thanks for your reply. What you have posted is what I have used as a guide to this whole ordeal. I have even tried redoing it all, and mixing up the suggested order, but to no avail. Since I spent an entire day screwing around I will take a minor break and try from scratch again. Does antivirus matter? Or does XP SP3 matter?

I don't use an internal DVB card, so I'm afraid that I'm perhaps not the best one to ask ... If I trip across anything else in my travels I'll let you know.

did you set up your diseqc switch settings ? i run mytheatre but have used dvbdream set diseqc settins with 110 being the first switch and have settings of ku circ lof 11250000, sw 12200000 and lof 11250000.119 ku circ lof1 11250000 sw 12700000 , lof2 11250000. signal strength is about 80-90% and quality is about that also. Make sure you have installed all twinhan drivers including the vision plus disk that came with your twinhan (when you start mytheatre or what ever you should hear the card click on), if not d/l the drivers from twinhan website. finally try running your cable directly to the twinhan card and see what you get some diseqc switches dont work with twinhan. i know i tried a couple before i got one to work . good luck

I am pretty sure i had my LNB/switch settings correct but I will double check again when I have time to debug this system. What I gathered from your post is that this card is picky (moody) on the setup. When it is warmer out I will climb up to the roof and remove the swtich for my 110/119 setup to test it out. Currently I have some switch (dunno brand) with 110 on port 4 and 119 on port 1 (for a nice clean wiring job) on my poor man's dish. I will post back when I get to try this out. Until then I can keep using my CW 600s until N3 shutdown
