Re: blocking neighbors wireless attacks
If you can catch him while he's actually doing it it will leave his MAC behind. The next question though is he smart enough to be "spoofing" his MAC or i.p or both for that matter. I've tried to think of what he would get by jamming you guys and I can't think of what he would gain by doing that....now if he could leech your bandwidth then he would gain something. I'm not sure how he would be leeching every bodies in the neighborhood though.

Re: blocking neighbors wireless attacks
He could be rotating from the list of available networks in the area, that would be the smarter thing to do.
Jamming everyone in the area is just plain dumb. Unless the guy gets off on screwing other people he would have nothing to gain from jamming the signal, this could very well be true but still just doesn't make much sense to me.

Re: blocking neighbors wireless attacks
You could install network magic and the network map will tell you if its just that he has connected to you router and is hogging your bandwidth. Also Comodo firewall will give you info on current connections and help to identify the culprit. Good Luck

Re: blocking neighbors wireless attacks
get a modem/router with encyrption on it, usually the 10 key password is quite efficient. Most IT guys can only work with what they got, if your whole neighbourhood has open wifi access then you all should be ashamed of yourselves and are asking for problems
One step further would be kicking the "IT" out of him... What people have replied with are all great ways. If you feel like he is doing something illegal call the cops... can't hurt, just hide your receiver if the cops want to come in.

Re: blocking neighbors wireless attacks
if he is sucking all your bandwidth,, it would show on front of modem and router, that ur wireless is being used ,, if u lose ur wireless,, and no lights come on ur modem and router,, then he is messing with ur wireless signal, perhaps jamming it ,, this would give you an idea of exactly what he is up to,,

Re: blocking neighbors wireless attacks
Try to stop broadcasting your connection name over the air.
Use a name that you'll not forget and every device that you need to add you'll need to add the name manually but nobody other than you will know that name. Like that it will be a little bit harder for him. ![]() Also try to change your router password. Never use it as the default admin user name and blank password. I dont use any security ...i dont broadcast my connection name and nobody knows that i have it at home.

Re: blocking neighbors wireless attacks
hey there bud there is alot of good ideas here yes first what esodom said you can check your logs and see if there is any out side ip addresses then in your router goto your lan and wireless and make sure he is not on your connection ( if you are not sure you can go to each computer hit run then cmd and type ipconfig and compare each ip to you router)if he is the go to mac fitering and then you can deny access to the network using his mac address
then i would do what gibahca said and make yourself invisible and change the channel after that .. too then if you want you can go to sheilds up and check to make sure that your firewall and all the ports that are open are properly forwarded here is a mine and i passed and i have port 21 open and i have full sharing working if you know how to do it properly you can keep yourself safe and still use all the extra ports for what you want here is the test i did also 1920 for the sv 8000hd good luck this is my opinion .. Home of Gibson Research Corporation if it is not any of these then he could be blocking but this means he is using a wired connetion and is messing with you wireless guys .. |

Re: blocking neighbors wireless attacks
You say you are running wpa-psk2 which is good. Along with that you should have your SSID disable and along with a powerful paraphrase (mines is > 15 characters) and a good password. Also set up your router to accept only your MAC addresses (of course you will need to enter them). If all this fails then he is differently "stepping" on you.

Re: blocking neighbors wireless attacks
This answer is a little late, but I'm posting it in case the problem has not been solved.
Get a router that has WPA security, WEP is not secure and can be cracked in a few minutes with something like backtrack. Run a good virus scanner and backdoor finder because if he is on your network, he most likely is also on your computer. Change all the passwords to your routers, networks, and computers. Get a good network scanning tool. Scan the network at all times. Use directional antennas on your router. Position the router so you can aim the signal away from his direction. You may also hang some material, like tin foil, on the walls close to your router that block his signals. Hope this helps.
