EVERY COOLSATER no matter what receiver new or old should give Treelover a hug for this bit of perfect poetry; "got a coolsat, move on!"
There almost needs to be a sub cat in the coolsat help section that is titled "once was Coolsat, now I'm _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ because..."
I know I'll be letting you all know where I end up going once I liberate myself from Coolsat's manipulated shipwreck.
WORD
ps: It's been great to read everone's stuff on this one, I'm leaning towards getting a sonicview pvr.

Re: CS5K sad truth
wordup,
The poll was for those guys who already were suckered by both the unit manufacturers and "support" groups.
I'm surprised Coolsat is not number one in that poll. Coolsat owners [4000, 5000, and 6000] and soon to be the next generations, were suckered by NOWR more than any other support group. We are the lollipops. Not Coolsat. NORW is the fiend who has depressed the resale value of our units to $30 or less on eBay.
The poll should have been for unit owners of units that are currently consistently up, such as Captain, Neosat, and Nfusion.
It appears that iks is the next system, while we are still able to do this. But there are problems with those receivers I just mentioned. Two are pvr's, that I don't need, and one is very slow [Nfusion].
FYI, Wordup!

Re: CS5K sad truth
I don´t think Norw is the guilty, but coolsat, they are the ones that doesn´t release the files, just my 2 cents.

Re: CS5K sad truth
I forgot to mention that in my opinion:
"Authorized Coolsat Dealer" really means a red hot poker will be shoved through your wallet to your heart. What's in your wallet? [I got a poker.]
For the fellow who blindly blames Coolsat, it is a very good fta receiver. Get a rotor and dual or quad lnb and a 1.2 meter dish and receive true fta. Coolsat does not support third party venders, such as NORW Group. If NORW Group firmware is installed, your Coolsat warranty is void.
NOWR Group is a fiend for depressing the resale value of our units; go to eBay to see the values. It is not my opinion that the support is depressing.
Read your Coolsat warranty, guy!

Re: CS5K sad truth
Don't know about that one. I have 3 CS 5000's, 1 CS 6100, 1 CW800PVR and 1 SV 4000. Each unit has some features that are better than the others ( except the CW .... Hands down ... my least favorite) Other than the ease of updating with USB, the CS 5000's are by far my favorites, picture quality is second to none and channel guides and editing are by far the best in this list! The only other brand that has a better remote layout and EPG is the SV. This would be my #1 but CS has a SLIGHTLY better picture. The CS 6100 is a great box but falls way short in the EPG area. As for the CW ... good support ... good but not great picture ... really poor EPG and program guide features, weird PVR recording format the runs you thru what I feel is way too much trouble to get your recording burned to DVD. AS far as recent support, CW and SV are very close with SV usually coming out on top. As everyone knows, CS really sucks here lately and it's trully a shame (and a bad business decision in my opinion) that they have gone the way they have with there older (and best) boxes. I am positive that I would not have purchased anything other than CS if they hadn't have made that choice!!!!

Re: CS5K sad truth
Do you know if the fix to convert coolsat 5000 to a skysat or viewsat works? Did see a new bin file for that and heard it is just a couple of 100 ohm resistors. I purchased this for $150 two months ago and see the 6100 comes out in a day or two. Been waiting two weeks and nothing. New file for 6100 came out today and I don't even have the file from last two weeks. I guess coolsat don't care about doing business and they will learn the hard way....

There is no conversion from CS to ??
Is better to start looking for a new receiver.

Re: CS5K sad truth
What's with you guys. I've had my 5000 for 2 yrs, paid 220 for it, that works out to less than 20 bucks a month, a sat subscription would have cost 2400 for the same amount of time, I'm happy, I've order a 7100, Coolsat's quality is still tops above all.

Re: CS5K sad truth
One has to expect "awe shucks" with this stuff. Sure, we are upset with CS for not supporting their products, the 6000 support is a disgrace! As I mentioned earlier we should just not purchase any of their products.
OK, with that behind me I can go on. I have somewhere about 6-8 Dave IRD's, about 8-10 of Chucks, loads of Rom3's, Rom10's, Rom 102's--- locked, Rom 28A----locked, 5 Magic cards, a couple of Atmega 128's and I just sold my Atmeg 256 USB. This is a hobby so they say, I say its an expensive adventure. OH-- I forgot to mention several of Dave's dishes along with lnbs that I know I can modify for use on Chuck resting peacefully in my basement.
Web sites---- There are at least 6 that I can remember going belly up, they were very goood sites! Not important you say???? Where do people get all their information??? This is one area we can all help preserve by supporting the sites that provide help. Some do more than others and this one, ABA is currently the BEST. No, they pay me nothing but as I stated, good sites can easily go the same way the CS 4K-6K went.
I don't mind it so much when technology changes or providers get better protecting thier products. It does bother me when CS still allows 6000 to be sold by THEIR dealers knowing the stuff is not getting any new bins. Have to suck it up guys. Tell the wives to help by getting a second job. We all need more TV time.
