Icon S550: LED 4444 lockup display fix.

symptoms:
Icon locked up with nothing on tv screen.
remote does not respond.
front control buttons do not respond.
overall complete locked up receiver,appears to be dead other than it powers up to boot,followed 4444 reading on its front display.

fix:
you cannot use the usb device,as you cannot use the receiver.
download the loader and factory file.
you will restore the unit using the null moden cable,factory file,the loader and your pc.

steps:
ready the loader with factory file selected.

1.extract the factory file from the compressed folder,and place on your desktop or folder that you can access with ease.

2.rename the file extension from .dlp to .hdp
for example before:
ICON_0003P-O-8M.dlp (will not work)
after:
ICON_0003P-O-8M.hdp (works)
(right click on the file,and select rename.copy/paste the above line if you prefer,and not used to pc's hehe)

3.connect the icon fta receiver(stb) to your pc using the supplied serial cable.(this is a null modem cable,and a straight through cable will not work even though it looks the same)
important note,its likely that using a usb to serial adapter may not work,so keep this in mind.you may want to purchase a 9 pin serial pci card for your pc.this will give you the serial port,and are quite cheap.or use a friends or family members pc for this fix.then again it may work fine,its simply not tested,nor would i recommend it if easily avoided anyway.

4.extract the loader from its compressed folder and place on your desktop,or same location as your newly renamed factory file,for ease of use.

5.ready the loader.
double click the loader,and simply select your newly renamed factory file by selecting SW Download to STB.browse for the file.

6.timing is everything.
ready the unit,and loader.
press the start button on the loader.count to about 3.and flip the rear switch of the icon to the on position,powering it up.if the timing was correct,the progress on the loader and front display of the icon will begin.do NOT stop or interfere with this progress once it begins.(as always).
however,if after waiting a couple seconds(to insure it doesn't start) go ahead and cancel the download on the loader.(don't worry,if its not displaying progress,its not sending info to your stb.its safe to cancel in this case).
try the progress again,pressing start on the loader first,and waiting 2 seconds this time.etc,etc,it may take a few tries.don't give up or despair.you will get it,or I'm not arboristman.

7.once restored.it is strongly recommend to factory default in the menu system.you don't want to risk leaving any bugs that caused this problem.
this unit is easy to set up and scans fast,so your only out a couple mins of your time to do this.

8.continue to enjoy that fast support from the new D1 group.
