Re: CS Bin for one but not the other
Thank you, you might be biting off more then you can chew, you read I am new to this didn't you. Oh and by the way I love my old dodge pick/up no speed but I could pull a house. lol.
Will I get support for the cs6000p? What keys (BEV) should I be using? Do I need to buy a diff. FTA? How long is this suppose (what you expect) this be down? Where would I find the BIN when it does come out? can I load it with a memory stick when I get it?
If you could answer some or all of these questions it would help.
Understanding what I am doing, I don't mind the down time as long as there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I have more time to spend with my truck, I mean wife. lol

I know it sucks, and it is a hard lesson to learn, but this business has changed a lot in the past 7 years. This is just my opinion so take it for what it is worth. Do not pay anybody for anything in this business except for hardware from certified dealers. Sorry to say that the advice includes buying premium VIP services.
It appears that you have also begun to figure out that the best way to start in this hobby is slowly, maybe one receiver and learn, then maybe expand. As you can tell from the ongoing Coolsat saga, stuff can change in a hurry. One day you are getting the best, the next you are getting crap. It does not pay to invest heavily all at once, and as you found out through experience, it can cost you quite a bit.
This next advice is given with all due respect to mod's everywhere, but there are still lots of sites driven by the community and not money. Yes I am aware that it costs money to run web sites, but sponsors are making a heck of a lot of money off people in this business let them flip the bill. Yes I belong to several different forums in the hobby, free and those that offer "VIP services. I have never paid for "VIP" services, and never will.
With enough patience and searching you can still find sites that give great advice and are about promoting the hobby, expand and explore many different places. I know its easier and more convenient to do one stop shopping, but I am sure you know the saying about putting all your eggs in one basket.
Believe it or not, nowadays most of the legit files come from just a few places and then disperse from there. You may have to wait a whole extra 30 min or so to get a new bin when it comes down, but after waiting 7 days thats no big deal.
Once again, just my humble opinion. Good luck in the future.

Re: CS Bin for one but not the other
Actually, it's back to square ONE for almost all receivers. Most receivers are "down" as far as premium, PPV and International channels are concerned; even with the brand new revised bins that were released this morning. Complaining about the lack of a bin file serves absolutely no positive purpose whatsoever except, perhaps, to provide a vector for venting. However, for those who are anxiously awaiting a "fix," especially newbies who may have only been in it for a few months, do keep the following points in mind (experienced users do):
1. Nothing in the FTA world is guaranteed except true FTA channels.
2. Always keep an alternative TV viewing option open, particularly if watching TV is a significant factor in your life. This can be a legal sub, cable, an antenna (or even plain old rabbit ears), or even a motorized dish for true FTA.
3. For commercial free late release movies, try an online rental service such as Netflix or Blockbuster. For those with a brick and mortar store close by, a Blockbuster Movie Pass (now called Total Access Pass) is an unbeatable value.
For the whiners and complainers, whoever told you to get into this hobby probably wasn't truthful with you because the purchase of an FTA receiver (any brand) does not entitle you to indefinite free bin file updates. They are provided to you at the whim and courtesy of the coders; not the manufacturers (coders may or may not be paid by same but there is no proven link or audit trail). In fact, point number #1 should have been stressed before your purchase (i.e., nothing is guaranteed). If you went into this with your eyes closed instead of open and want someone to blame, don't launch tirades against the receiver manufacturer. Instead, go back to the person who misled you or, if applicable, go into your bathroom and look in the mirror.
This was not intended to flame or inflame; only to get some of you (you know who you are) to get back in touch with reality.

Re: CS Bin for one but not the other
dssnovice you make good points
my only issue with the fact this everything is down is that I'm on Bev and I want my local channels. I could care less about PPV or International channels. I just want Global & CTV back! lol
We bought our box for TV viewing, not testing, as that's what we were told it was for and I feel like I've been duped and it's more hassle than good! I'm tempted to get the antenna hooked back up!

Re: CS Bin for one but not the other
I'm fairly new to coolsat and after reading these postings, I'm getting discouraged. Should I be? Or should I just wait patiently for something--anything to happen?

As novice so eloquently put it, there is nothing guaranteed in this game. You could be up for months, then get hit with a major ECM that puts you down for months, or in the case of DAVE testing a couple years and still going.
Best advice is do not "rely" on this hobby as your only means of TV if its important to you. Its always smart to keep a backup (legit sub, cable, ect).

Re: CS Bin for one but not the other
Yes I think so, it is time to give up coolsat 4k 5k & 6k. I mean we don't, but I think coolsat company want us to upgrade to 7000 or 7100. And I am pretty sure coder also involve in this dirty game. If I have to upgrade it then I will go with other company, no more coolsat how's that ? And all of us if we did this then coolsat company will be in limbo Right !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: CS Bin for one but not the other
I feel that we might not have a choice. But I will give the benifit of doubt right now just because every one has been effected. But if a long time goes by and viewsat, captive and etc are back up and no fix for my cs6000 isn't, and i have to upgrade it won't be another cs of any kind.

Let me say this: The f2atv site, which is supposedly the official norw site where the files are supposedly posted first, is a piece of work. I was banned from that site for supposedly "insulting" them. Here's the message I get when I try to sign on: Message You have been banned for the following reason:
Congrats on insulting the Majority of our members and staff all in one post ! See Ya !!
Date the ban will be lifted: Never
My intentions of asking for more information and attempting to motivate others to advance the hobby of fta instead of passively begging for files was greeted in the above manner. I think I used the word "lemmings" in reference to the way they treated most posters in search of answers to the questions all us cs people have and rightfully so. Where is the support and if no support how can we continue on our own. If f2atv.com is the definitive site then whoa to us all because they have a god complex. So, that being said, I'm hoping they are just another site and have just blurted out a comment to belittle all the cs inquiring minds and that the comment has little or no foundation. In other words they are tired of the beggers looking for files and are sending them away by saying pretty much what they said to me. I hate to say this, but after five or six days I think we are all getting a little edgy about the prognosis. I still believe in the challenge and I know others who are better educated in this hobby than I do too, so I will continue to be optimistic and patient.
I can be more patient if I know why I have to wait.

You paid $250 per unit?? I have found it is best to research before purchasing any electronics. For example you can buy a Captain 8K and get excellent HD on b*v for $250. Sorry to hear you rushed things a little. If it is any consolation many of us have made regretable purchases. GL
