my cs6k died
awhile back i posted about how my receiver was doing some very strange things. It was suggested by a member to do a force load of the factory bin. This brought my receiver back to life. Now a few weeks later it has done it again, even after doing a force load it never boots up where you can put the updated bin on it. I left this box off for a few days and now it won't even turn on. I cracked this box open and found a capcitor at C21 swollen on the power supply. I have bought a replacement capcitor and will see if this fixes my issue. Was just wondering has anybody had any issues with capcitors on coolsats, i've heard it with pansat but nothing here about coolsats.

I think you might have got a surge to fry the component in the power supply.
If you want to be safe, use a surge protector (like on your PC).
Never heard anybody else have that problem...but thanks for the heads up!

Re: my cs6k died
Here's a good reference for "Bad Caps".
Capacitor plague - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A primary Chinese capacitor manufacturer screwed up on their electrolyte formula and put out millions of bad cap's, that wound up on countless computer motherboards and many other electronic devices.
Looking for swollen and/or leaking caps is a good idea whenever any electronic device exhibits weird behavior.
Thank you for telling us about that fix.

You are not this first with this problem, sorry I missed your first post with this problem. I have a pic and instructions on this exact problem (not my work), so I'm sure you have solved your issue.

Re: my cs6k died
The same thing happens on older PC motherboards its usually a sign of age period, swapping the Cap out will fix it, until another one (about the same age) does it again.

Re: my cs6k died
It's very weird my CS 6K also went out a few weeks ago. I was going to send it back to CS but just haven't had the time. After reading this post I decided to check out this electrolyte capcitor (1000uf @ 6.5volts)on the power supply (C21) was also swollen. I replaced it with the same MFD but with a 10 volt one. Also I noticed that the cap at C29 had a bad solder joint, Don't really know if this might have been part of the problem but you never know. My CS 6k is up and going again. Don't know why I fixed it, since it's down most of the time anyhow.
