You need to ensure the cable you purchased is a USB to DB9, not a USB
to NULL serial cable, they look the same (alike) but function differently.

I checked and it is a db9 cable. It goes almost all the way through but fails right at the end. It gets all the way to 100% and says burning. It never finishes and says WRITE FAILD {ER2}. I used to be able to update my box on my old laptop with the nine pin cable but now is has errors when I use the new db9 cable. Any ideas? My old laptop is dead so there is no chance of using it again.

did you try the other file i gave you. do you have the original serial cable that u used before for the serial port?

I tried the other file but I got the same result, same error. I do have the original cable but its no good for me anymore because there is no nine pin connection on the back of my computer. I can only use usb and that's why I bought the nine pin to usb cord.

just a thought. when your box is hooked up to laptop go to device manager and see if it is connected and if under usb and not comm port or vise versa, could be port problem. just a thought

It is hooked up to a desktop, not a laptop. What do I check for in device manager? I am not completely understanding.
