Autoroll on/off, That is the question!
I'm ususally a reader... not a poster, but one thing that I'm really starting to get confused about is whether autoroll is really supposed to be turned ON or OFF???
I noticed that the last few bins had been to turn it OFF, because it would roll anyway. But yesterday evening (11-29-07, 6pm), it didnt do anything. I was up till around 1 am this morning, and still didn't roll. This morning (7am) I tried it again... and it rolled (as usuall, still no premium/ ppv's).
So the question is, why do you suppose the coders are fixing bins that have you turn OFF the autoroll, but yet will roll anyway? Had the autoroll been turned on, would this had made a difference??? I dont know because I didnt have time to try it... because I figured "it should've rolled anyway". Granted, if it still had not worked this morning, then it would've been to simply wait for the newer bin. But since it started working again this morning... I'm thinking that I probably should've tried to turn autoroll back ON (again, didnt have time to mess with it much last night).
So, if there's any way possible to have the coders make the bin actually be specific to have AR simply On or OFF to roll, and not say "have it Off but it will roll anyway". This is where the confusion comes in. Because what about if we have it OFF... and it really needs to be turned ON and we're just waiting like dummies . Have it ON or have it OFF... one or the other, but not "OFF but it will roll anyway" .
On a final note, I think it would be helpful when posting new bins, to have a side note stating what the bin fixes (AR, etc) AND whether to turn autoroll ON or OFF. Just a suggestion.
Sorry for the long post. Thanks guy's!

Re: Autoroll on/off, That is the question!
Dear Gizmo when you ad the keys manually is when you need to turn off the auto roll, when you are using the latest bin is when you need to leave autorroll on (most of the times the latest bin is to fix auto roll problems )
Remember the bin and the keys are totally different things, for example with this latest attack if you don`t have turn on the auto roll you would not be able to watch the regular channels on your fta, auto roll is a program that seeks the keys that the dish and bell provider are using at that time.
And also remind you that there is a lot of info going on but you need to read most of the post in the forums, if you do you will find that this week problem is the same that last weeks it only afects the ppv and movie channels, so yes the keys are changing and the auto roll i working but the keys for the premium services are different.
I am not personally a regular poster, but i can assure you that the job that our programmers do it`s outstanding compare to the other pages. and if you follow the instructions you will get to the path, but if you want not to have any inconvenience i strongly suggest you go and get a regular pay subscription to DN so you don`t have to turn on or off nothing.
Happy Holidays!

Re: Autoroll on/off, That is the question!
Dear Yowfgbp,
Thanks for your reply, but fortunately, I'm NOT a newbie at FTA, and have been doing it for the last 2 and half years. So I know how bins work, how autoroll works, what the difference is between the two, how keys work, how to enter them manually, what the network providers are doing, etc, etc, etc, and the list goes on. Sure, I know bins fix autoroll and other bugs. No disrespect, but I think you missed the comment about... "had my AR been turned ON, would this had made a difference".
My autoroll has been turned OFF this whole time since the last 3 bins, and had never had any issues with it rolling, etc, etc. When they said to turn it off a few bins ago, because "it would roll anyway"... it stayed OFF, because I was testing it, and was still working up to this day (except for last night). Then this morning, with AR still off, it worked again (except for prem/ppv's). The rest of the channels were working. So this was my inquiry and point. I was just saying how they posted "turn AR OFF, but it will roll anyway".
As far as inconvenience, there isnt any. Like I said, I've been testing for the last 2 and a half years, and have been helping other friends with theirs. No my friend... not new to FTA, but again, thanks for the reply

Re: Autoroll on/off, That is the question!
pansat bins do not have a TRUE a/r OFF.
thats why it still rolls.
still, yeah its basic.turn a/r off when a/r is hit by an ecm and enter keys via remote.
pansats are odd,in that if a/r is all working fine, you can actually leave it off and work fine.
lol its poor coding.it should have a true off.
