i have a desktop computer that came with windows vista home premium 64 bit. It has no serial port to hook the null modem cable that came with my pansat. I bought a usb to serial converter but my computer will not download the driver for the converter. it states that windows could not find software. This converter cable worked on a friends laptop but it did have windows xp on it, and i had to changed setting or something (i think someone here had told me what to changed) in order for it to work......my problem is I cant remember what it was..can someone help me again..if more info is needed let me know thanks debrah

Re: usb to serial converter--...
firat since it is a 64 bit you want to uninstall the driver and the go to programs and delete the file there then .. go back and put in the driver disk again and then do not auto start it click open then you will see all the files right click on the setup.exe file go down to properties and left click in the tabs at the top click compatibility and the put a check mark for run as windows xp then go down and put a check mark in the run as administrator hit appl and ok then double click on setup.exe and install (make sure the cable is not plugged in ).. then once it is loaded if you have to restart then do it if not now you can plug in your cable and it will in the bottom left find the cable and say it is installing once it is done it will say ready to use or possible restrart then .. next
go to my computer right click properties and the left top device manager go down to ports hit the + and expand look to see what port the usb to serial is using and write it down .. then close and open your loader and make sure that it matches up with the one you wrote down and it should work perfect now

Re: usb to serial converter--...
when i first tried to download the files (bins) for this pansat and it failed . I had serched the internet for drivers, downloaded probably about six different ones......none would work. BUT after reading tomcat01's reply about checking the loader to see what port it was set on, wouldn't you know i hadn't paid attention to that and that was my problem.. It works fine now. thanks everyone for your info..debrah
