With PS 3500SD, which is what I have, when you first turn it on, you can exit to go straight to viewing,(but you'll have no EPG to speak of) or press "ok" to load the EPG. After reading this info, I found that if I put it on one of those channels, turn it off, then turn it back on and press "ok" to load the EPG, it fills in almost completely, where before, it was filling in patches, with big gaps. It doesn't fill in by itself, though, from just leaving it on one of those channels for awhile. Maybe it will on other STB's, though. I guess mine getting to be kind of a dinosaur.
Now that I know this, I can change to one of the listed channels when I turn it off at night, so I can just load EPG when I first turn it on.
Some of my receivers have the feature to download EPG and extended up to 6 days. The one with out this feature, I go to one of those channels and leave it there for awhile (1-2 hours) until it populated to max.
