Fixing Dead Or Red Light Syndrome On Captiveworks CW-600S Premium
If you are experiencing an apparently Dead, Red Light Syndrome, Dim or no display on your Captiveworks CW-600S Regular or Captiveworks CW-600S Premium, here are some instructions on how to fix it.
NOTE: If one of the above syndrome(s) appear after loading a bin file or the wrong bin file, the following procedure probably will not work. Try loading a factory file in BOOT mode to get it back, or better yet, start a New Thread, and a Site Helper or a Moderator will assist you.
1. Remove top lid by removing all 5 screws.
2. Measure the 3.3 volts (CN2 power supply or J2 on main board), If this voltage is 2.8 volts or lower, the power supply needs to be fixed.
3. Turn power OFF and Remove the power supply board from chassis.
4. Visually inspect the capacitors C16 and C17 (CW-600S Premium), C11 and C12 (CW-600S Regular). If these capacitors show any signs of swelling and bulging on top or bottom, it is definately time to replace them.
Capacitor Values are 1000uF/10 volts. You can also use 1000uF/16 or 25 volts.
5. Desolder the capacitors using a solder sucker.
Do not apply pressure to pads or lands.
6. Install the new capacitors with the proper polarities (Big Stripe is the Negative) to avoid further damage to power supply board.
7. Solder the installed capacitors,
be careful not to apply pressure with soldering iron as this will damage the pads or lands.
8. Be sure to clip capacitor leads off enough so they do not touch and ground on the chassis when the power supply board is re-installed.
9. Install power supply board back into the chassis and power STB back ON.
Good Luck !!
