What did I do & how bad is it? - ABA DSS

Oh my I think I loaded a wrong fix...Is there anyone that can rescue me?
- not sure what info ya need to help me & I know next to nothing about fta programming or tech terms, so please be gentle-

I have a VS P-lite w/ DN 500 dual lnb, I loaded the bin on the 22nd or 23rd. It worked but the programming glitched alot.
Then I saw the fix for B3V wasn't sure if I needed it or not(they are usually released together), so I held it for a couple days... I loaded it tonight and lost everthing.
I reloaded the last VS-P hoping to get back what I had even though it glitched.... it didn't work.

In the simplest terms possible... How badly did I damage my machine & can it be fixed?

It will certainly help if you cud provide more details pertaining to your set up..like the SAT you are pointing n Antena settings and stuff..?

However -you can access all that from the main Menu Page in each section of the set up..Installation n stuff...

Alternatively you can just go ahead and do Factory default (ensure you write down the settings as fac default will erase ur current settings) auto scan the reciever for the SAT ur pointing at and then the current working file fix for the reciever..that will get you back to enjoy ur TV..

It's not that terrible and with little effort n info you sud do well...

Meantime if the reciever is just DEAD here -explore the link and follow the stemps to revive the nachine..

jinx, go to viewsat platinum help in the forum and read what tomcat said about the dead viewsat and follow his instructions and it should get you running.

You are still probably o.k, i would think that maybe something happened in the loading process but the vs light/plat are pretty resilient.

First just try loading the latest update again and make sure your stb reads 000 before you unplug it from the cable.

If that does not work do a factory default,then load the latest factory file and reinstall the latest bin.

I agree with Beef. From what you say, it doesn't look like you did anything drastic to the receiver. Stay calm and be careful when you try to fix it now. Many try different things by trial and error and do worse things to the unit. Just read instructions in the VS section and follow them.

TY....a guy set it up for me, he didn't tell me much .. except DO NOT touch the menu button (I think he told me I would spontaneously combust if I did) & he talked me through how to load a bin - that he sent to my email. I do know that my channels are thru 110 & 119 (told ya I was very new to this *sigh*) guess that means I didn't need the B3V bin?!
As for being 'dead'.. I don't think it is, at least not completely... it's all snowy and I can hear talking but its a lil fuzzy to.
My dish is very secure in its location so its not wiggling around (no signal loss there). When I unhook my box I always set it to a channel that says 'Welcome to Dishnet work' does it make a difference - somewhere here I read that it auto rolls better on some channels?
How would I get the factory settings to write them down if I can't get the pic to come in?

::forrestgump... I scanned thru help forever to see if I could help myself before I posted.. (I hate feelinging like a helpless female) But there is so much help & info I get confused about what I need. So telling me to look for 'tomcat' really helps...TY -its very much appreciated and a good place to restart

TY ..though thats actually the 1 thing I know that I do the right way - I let it go 0000 & then back to the channel I was on when I unplugged & do a 'hard boot' everytime ...just like one of the first posts I read here told me to .... I wrote it down on a crib sheet and follow it everytime.
As for the factory sets... the fella that put it in did the programming & set the channels, I don't even know how to do that yet (to afraid to explore it) - he won't help me because I subscribed to the ABA site without telling him when I bought the box ..said I was on my own (he was charging me $20 for every fix)

btw:: Thank you all for your info/help that was why I chose ABA as my info site. I watched you help so many & now hope you can get me through my first crisis.

first off before you do anything shut it off and then disconnect all for abut 5 min and plug back in check the coax to.. really i have never heard of snow from a bin so i would check to make sure that the copper core is still there in the cable just small things to check and it is on the right channel ..
there is a 3-4 switch on the back make sure it matches the channel you are on if you are not using cables ..

just make a list of what you checked and then post here and we can start from scratch

LOL Tomcat ... are you psychic as well? I'm obsessive compulsive as soon as the posts were up I made a list of 1st things to do & in order of degree of difficulty. Also made crib notes of little bits of info I found while reading.

~~NOW this is me kissing your virtual feet... I never thought to check it since I never usually touch it. It was the lil channel switch - gave me 'ghost' tv....isn't there a saying about the simplest things being the most likely?!

*embarrassed* I worked in an electronics shop for several years in the early to late 90s learned to repair all kinds of electronics but mainly selling and occasionally help installing DSS - as they say if ya don't use it ya lose it....

....one more question before I go ... if the fixes come in separate 'DN from BEV' do I need to dl both? I don't think I have the BEV? I use echo 7-119 & echo 8,10-110
