Huge problem, small box
I got a viewsat 2000 platinum. long story short, my box doesnt work. When i enter the setup, installation area on the menu, the codes menu is not there any longer. It used to be, my friend did something to the box and doesnt work. i tried loading the factory pgm and all the latest satinfo and bin files but i just cannot get the menu to include to category for CODES. what can i do to fix this. i know i should ill my friend for messing with it but i need to know if its time to throw this thing in the garbage, im going crazy tryin to find a fix. Is there something i can load into this thing to get it working again. its as though the codes area is no longer even on the box. When my tv would go out, i used to load the new codes in to get it working for a few days, but its just not there. what can i do?

Re: Huge problem, small box
its not broken, the menu has just changed. if you have the latest bin and autoroll is turned on, you dont need to enter codes and hence the menu does not let you perform it.
make sure sig and quality are fine, load the latest bin, (caution, dont load the new ultra light file) and make sure autoroll is on and it should be fine.

Re: Huge problem, small box
I don't have a platinum but I have an extreme,,,,when you reloaded your factory bin and latest bin did you do a factory default first? if not I would try that,,,,,and when you say codes .....do you mean keys?

Re: Huge problem, small box
yea i think he means keys, if you do a factory default as hair suggests, write down your antenna settings first as you will have to re-enter them after that and you will also have to do a channel scan to get your channel list back. also you will have to reset your time zone for the epg...

Re: Huge problem, small box
manually entering keys has become a thing of the past, the latest bin file should work though, in options make sure autoroll is on and post your settings if you still have trouble.

the place to manually enter keys is still there, menu-user setting-code menu. the thing is code menu isn't visible until you hit user setting. but this doesn't need to be used, either auto-roll takes care of it or use an op-key file to update the keys.
