Thumbs down Viewsat Extreme - Newbie help!!

I have new viewsat and still learning. I uploaded the new bin. I did not do any satellite scanning but copied the channel file from my old pansat to new viewsat extreme.

I am getting all the channels but:

Not getting anything for EGP or program information. Please help with any suggestions.

Hmmm

I may not be the one with your answer as I always scan, and my EPG always works. But I'm sure that you are familiar with the fact that viewsat doesnt like channel lists.

My suggestion would be to restore factory default from the menu, scan your birds and see if the EPG works then. If it does, it is a problem with your channel list interaction. Make sure you are not drowning the memory with too many channels, all boxes have limits.

You may wish to reduce the number of EPG hours in setup and the fickle little box may take a few times of loading a factory bin, then the new bin, then the right settings... Also, EPG might take a bit with your list. Be sure to set the time.

Make sure that you waive a fresh dead chicken above your head while you are doing this, very important.

Good luck

here is what to do

first do a vactory reset then go in and adjust your antenna settings again and your time -600 for central then make sure auto rolll and tp are on ok

now when you setup your antenna settings for each sat stay there and hit f1 with the time and all enter it will populate your epg make sure just to hit f1 all channels and epg will be there ...

Factory reset - Extreme

When I do the factory reset, do you need to flash the factory bin or should I leave the working bin in there?

Additionally, I am not getting any signal strength or quality on the receiver but the channels work ok when I uploaded the list. Will the satellites still be able to scan since it does not show any signal but in reality all satellites have strong signal?

Thank you for all the help you are providing.

Wow

No signal huh?
Your settings are wrong. Yes do the factory bin, dont worry about the factory reset. Just factory bin, latest bin, check your dish settings, switch numbers etc to get a good signal on the right sattelite. The sattelite name will pop up into the top right hand box when you get a lock in the installation menu. Lock in 7 first, then 8-10.
Once you have both signals reading properly, press F1 from the install menu and suck in your channels. Do the same for the other bird.
After you are watching tv this way, you can suck up your channel list and play with it as you see fit, but no guarantees.

Good Luck

Summary of Step for EPG

I really feel stupid and want to clarify the step to take. Please let me know if this is correct. Still learning the viewsat.

Currently the receiver has the latest bin file and a channel list I copied from channel master but NO EPG. It also does not show any signal on any satellite (61.5, 110 and 119) on Viewsat (with correct DISEQ settings). Even with all this I get all the channels just no EPG.

When I hook up the pansat to the same cable it has full signal strength (with the same DISEQ setting) and also get all settings.

Are the following steps correct to get EPG?
  1. Load factory bin
  2. Set to factory settings
  3. Go to Installation
  4. Set correct Diseq settings (hopefully get the signals)
  5. Go to each individual satellite (61.5, 110 and 119) and press F1 for satellite scan
  6. Flash the new BIN
  7. Set correct time -5.0 hours for Eastern time zone
  8. Watch TV
Are step 5 and 6 in correct order?

My friend and I bought the same receiver, somehow his will only allow him to do blind scan and not a satellite scan. With the blind scan he is missing many channels. Any thoughts?

Any help is greatly appreciate.

Interesting...

Sam,

I have not seen the ability to receive channels with no sat signal on the install menu. That one is interesting. I will reitterate that the box does not like channels loaded, which also loads the sat data.

To answer your question, 5 and 6 are reversed. Load the factory bin to reset the receiver. You may then load the new bin, set your time, set your bird settings and scan when you have a lock on the correct sats from the install menu. I think your problem lies in that you are trying to load the channel list, which is confusing the bird settings. Not all boxes respond to the same TP settings strange as it may seem.

Once you have a populated channel list from the scan, you can suck up the channel list and edit and reload. That seems to work ok.

Your friend that is not getting all of his channels has the lnb type set wrong. I had the same problem using direct lnbs, was getting 200+ channels. I changed them to universal and got 600+. Have him try that.

Good luck
