Question on Null Modem Cable
Can someone tell me whether I need DB9 F/F Null Modem Cable for flashing my viewsat extreme receiver?
And where I can purchase it within Canada, cuz I know Radioshack carries it but they have no locations within Canada.
Thanks.

Re: Question on Null Modem Cable
I don't know your receiver but if your pc is new you will not be able to use a db9 to db9. You will probably need a db9(receiver) to USB port(pc) or a USB Serial cable

Re: Question on Null Modem Cable
Radio Shack in Canada changed to "The Source" if that helps. Same locations that used to be Radio Shacks.

Re: Question on Null Modem Cable
I had to buy a USB cable since Iam using a laptop, so if I connec the USB cable to the DB9 null modem will I be able to download the file?
I had purchased a RS32 cable previously and I kept getting an error that the file is resending zquirnt. So someone told me that I have the wrong cable wire and that I needed a null modem cable.

Re: Question on Null Modem Cable
Yup, the db9 to USB would do it. It is still a form a null but called a USB Serial cable

Re: Question on Null Modem Cable
You do not want a "straight" cable which is USB on both ends

Re: Question on Null Modem Cable
Thanks Basscat, I found this wire: Belkin IBM AT/Hayes Modem Cable, 10', DB9F/DB25M from Staples? Would this solve the issue?
Below is the link for it?
http://www.staples****/ENG/Catalog/c...affixedcode=WW
The reason Iam asking is since it isnt a female to femala wire.

Re: Question on Null Modem Cable
the 25 pin on your pc is used for games and stuff and probably won't work, but if you have it and have the drivers , give it a try

Re: Question on Null Modem Cable
the 25 pin is actually called an expansion port. You really need to use the USB port from the db9 on the receiver
