I just set up a buddy with an ultra and noticed he has over 1200 channels. I only have 800 plus with my extreme. To get more channels, can I just do an autoscan or will I have to factory default first?

He might just have duplicates, what sats are you pointed at?

unless he has a motor and pointed at more than just dn he has a ton of duplicates

most likely you scanned twice or you have the wrong lnb settings and that has cause duplicates best thing to do is a factory default from menu and auto scan 1 sat at a time

should get depending on area for locals
119w 275-300
110w 330-375

two dishes each with it's own lnb.......one is 110 and the other is 119
scanned 119 one day and 110 about 5 days later. So I'm good and no need to rescan? Can he just go into the menu and delete duplicate channels?

110/119 togeather tottel 742 tv and 68 raido

He can just rescan and it should get rid of them, if it doesn't factory reset and a rescan will work. Make sure they copy the antenna settings down first just in case.

just rescanning will add more duplicates i would wtite down tha antenna settings and do a factory default

make sure the correct lnb type is selected

Okay I'm leaving mine alone and if he complains about duplicates I'll fix it. One more question. When doing a factory default do all the codes need to be reinstalled....sat info, latest bin etc. ?

if you do a factory default from the menu no if you load the factory file then yes you will need to reload the newest bin
