Need for a Computer Related Forum (FTA ONLY!)
How about setting up a "Computer Related" Forum?
This would be a place to post information on the utilities and instructions about how to support the FTA units along with Q&A to help. This must be ONLY FTA related, but should cover all the major hardware/software platforms (pc, mac / windows, osx, linux).
If there is a real interest, I have a tree template I could share here. I also have much information to post but nowhere proper to post it.

Good idea. This has been requested before, but so far not acted upon. In fact I asked for it some time ago. Other sites have a computer forum/catagory. But I disagree that it should only be FTA oriented. Many people/newbies need help with computer basics. There are many posts on this site already related to computer and fta "how too's" but more are needed. It should also encompass OS's -- applications -- tips n tricks, etc.

Re: Need for a Computer Related Forum (FTA ONLY!)
Good input. Let's work it out some more.
"only FTA":
what I mean is that we do not need to duplicate what is part of an external platform specific forum. We should use external links (as approved).
For example:
Not allowed: What is the latest Windows release?
How do I execute Loader2?
Is allowed: What release of windows is needed for Loader2?
How do I configure Loader2 for a VS Ultra?
We should not make this site a general forum for any hardware/software Q&A.
Of course there will be border line cases and we should be accommodating.
If there is a need for computer basics, then it would/should be in a 'basics' forum and not sprinkled throughout the general/specific FTA specific forums.
Let's make it obvious and clear what information is located in each forum. Let's make sure we have enough forums so we do not dilute the others. Look around. Some forums are specific but the main topic is lost among all the divergences. It is very time consuming finding the data of interest.

Re: Need for a Computer Related Forum (FTA ONLY!)
We could have "basics" forum or a 'general/basics' or 'specific", maybe even general/specific, then we could have "O/S basics", or "O/S general/specific/basics". Site rules tell you where you should post, problem is not everyone reads. If they did you'd find it much easier to find what it is you're looking for. FTA is the purpose of the site, not FCA, Free Computer Assistance. Besides it's just TV. My suggestion.... follow Edwinsao's link.

How about : PC/Mac/Linux Utilities=>Loaders, Video Viewers/Converters
USB/Serial Adapters=> Drivers=>Loaders=>HowTo
...
Just no place to post information in an organized way.

Re: Need for a Computer Related Forum (FTA ONLY!)
Thanks for the link edwinsao. First time I've seen this. I thought I knew every catagory on this site. Checked it out, and is sort of what I am looking for. Don't see it now in any headings.
By the way -- HAPPY GROUND HOG DAY

Re: Need for a Computer Related Forum (FTA ONLY!)
Good idea, maybe boss wil take a look and see what he can do. Would also be a good place for members to troubleshoot PC problems related around the FTA world. I know we have some real computer gurus here at ABAdss. I need help all the time...

Re: Need for a Computer Related Forum (FTA ONLY!)
I just successfully completed testing of a loader/adapter configuration for a vs9000 from a mac computer.
Now I need a forum to post it in. As posted above, good, logical tree structured forum with a branch for mac utilities and another for usb adapters would be good places.

Re: Need for a Computer Related Forum (FTA ONLY!)
Well it seems that this has died a lonely death so I will let it go.
I cannot see posting PC/Mac/Linux info throughout another non-related forum. Besides having to put up with all the flames, it would just get lost in all the other problems.
If the Admin's or Mod's want to reconsider, they know how to reach me by email.
I did find a few other sites open to doing this. See you there. A lot of stuff has been really good here.
thanx all.

Re: Need for a Computer Related Forum (FTA ONLY!)
Admin is trying to revive the Abadss FTA Newsletter. There's a great place to start. They are looking for Articles related to FTA. The Newsletter Forum would be a great place to have OS related articles, Hardware(Dish,LNB,Switches, Cables), PC Software(zip, rar), Receiver Software(Loaders), Receiver Basics(factory default, hard reboot, loading bin, satellite setup, etc). With as many pictograms for easy understanding of the steps. And Every time an article is written it is categorized in the sections listed above and added as a Sticky or a Sub heading in the Newsletter Forum.
Greats ideas above, hopefully they will be considered.
