FTA status section
I saw a section like this on another site. It works great.
This way people have a dedicated page to check whether their stb is reported up or down.

the best thing i have seen is have the status section posted on the homepage and have a 30 sec wait before the forums open for you, so basically you have to read whats there in front of you because you have nothing else to do but wait for 30-45 secs. works well for any info that all members NEED to READ!!
