I want to make a suggestion.
It seems we don't have a real general discussion forum for people that aren't newbies. Alot of the times that i want to ask a question about a general topic, I either have to do it in the CW forum cause that's what I have or in the newbie general discussion forum.
How long is one a newbie?
I think alot of the times, there are too many threads that all ask the same question but because we all own different boxes, we are made to post the same general question in 10-15 different places and then alot of the times, we don't really get the answers we're looking for cause people only sometimes read certain forums pertaining to their brand of box when they could probably help someone with a general question about a certain topic not really related to a certain box but a certain topic that isn't really covered in any of the other forums.
I like the way this board is configured but I think sometimes things are just a little too technical and not everyone is as computer literate as some others so when their threads are moved because they posted in the wrong place, those people get lost.
I think we can do with one more thread that deals with general questions and for people that aren't newbies.
For instance.....I've asked this same question twice and have gotten minimal replies both times because I ask it on the CW section so naturally one might look at it and say I'm a SV or VS guy so I'll just skip over that question even though that question is really meant for everyone.
I notice we have a topic of FTA accessories but not one of general FTA questions.
What is a general topic?
Examples would be:
Is bev down?
Is everyone else having trouble with horizontal TPs?
When is Nag 3 gonna be instilled?
Etc...
I think a major general topic thread will get alot more answers and thus solve alot more problem alot faster.
But oh well, that's just MHO.

Re: I want to make a suggestion.
When a Thread is moved it's quite easy to be found. If it's answered it will be in your USER CP, see link above.
Unfortunately the examples you used are the one we try not to have posted. At least 2 out of 3 are. Is Bev down is not a topic for discussion, cause if it is Admin doesn't want everyone asking the same question. Which is why it's important to start every session in FORUMS, see link top of page, there you WILL find if Bev or DN is down, no need to ask.
When will Nagrs 3 be installed has been discussed soooo many times, it's a long process with a lot of opinions again taking up site bandwidth for nothing.
Good posts though. But a lot of people who have General questions that apply to all usually post them in the General Discussion section, Newbie or Not.

Re: I want to make a suggestion.
I guess the real point of all this was missed.
As for the "Is bev down question"...the point is...people are still gonna ask that question but if they have a VS, they will do so on that forum and if they have a CW they will do so on that forum, etc...
Where as if there is a general thread, it could be asked on that one alone.
The point is.....there should be one main forum for all the little stuff.
I asked a question about horizontal TP's on the CW's section and everybody automatically assumed it was a CW issue. It is not an issue with CW...this I know....it was an issue of either not the right lnb or maybe others were having the same problem or I don't know and that's why I asked but I never ot a real answer to my question.
Either nobody owns a dn500 with a DPplus or pro or they do and don't have it pointed at 91/82 like I asked or maybe nobody just wanted to answer my question, etc...
I notice these things and one thing I notice that only certain people reply to certain topics depending on model/brand.
I thought the concept of paying for membership was to try get these problems figured out. I know VIP doesn't get same treatment as Live Help but I thought eventually someone was supposed to help out with the issues at hand.
When there is a main board, one that EVERYBODY will eventually enter, then there is a way better chance to get some of these problems resolved.
I ask a simple question about an lnb and certain dish, I want simple answers to those questions.....not a rundown on the setting and the rest of the stuff.
For the thrid time...not that it matters at this moment but:
I was having trouble getting horizontal TP's on bev with a single LNB.
My question and the only thing I wnat an answer to was does anybody using a dn500 with either a DPplus or DPpro LNB have this problem.
Please don't ask me what box I have and what my setting are, etc...
A simple yes or no will do the trick for me.
To my astoundishment.....I never got a direct answer to that question.
I have a CW600p and CW800 and regardless of whih of those 2 sections i posted it on.....the replies were always the same.....technical questions about my settings, etc...
But oh well....sometimes the easiest of answers never get answered because people are too busy looking beyond how easy the answer really is.....like yes I do hve a dn500 with DPplus lnb and yes/no I do/don't have that problem or no I don't have a dn500 with DPplus and yes/no I do/don't have the same problem.
Believe it or not....some of us GET how things work after a while.
And please don't take this like I am getting on anybody but c'mon...how many times do I have to ask the same question and in how many sections do I have to ask it till I get a straight reply?

Re: I want to make a suggestion.
And just to follow up on my suggestion.....since I've been here or maybe a little bit before....there was a chat box added but guess what.....despite it saying don't ask questions about FTA on there.....I'd say about 80-90% of the talk/questions on there are about FTA.
A section with a general theme will make things 50 times easier to communicate with each other....I've been a member of a sports forum for close to ten years and it's one of the best...not all people are as nice as this one but all the messages are clearly relayed.

Yes, and unfortunately as it has been being proved the past hour or so...you're gonna get those posts regardless. And as I mentioned, you're getting them in just about every section when a GENERAL TOPIC section would have been the ideal place for this stuff that is happening today.
I've seen numerous threads closed today because they all are about the same topic but just in different sections.
And you are proving my point again with the nag3 topic...you said it has been talked about many times over.....why not have it in only one section so it doesn't disrupt other sections?
And I will add another suggestion just from what I've seen today.
When one of the carriers go down, you need to announce it with the title being in red bold letters so it catches everyone's attention and people will look at that first and maybe not post the same thing over and over in different sections.....you also need to find a way to keep it on top of all the other threads.

Anything non specific about FTA can be simply posted under general chit chat.
And I think you are a newbie from 1-100 posts. (unless it has been changed)

Well, if I follow the rules....unless it has been changed...it says:
Use this forum for general non FTA chit chat. Please do not post help requests.
So that is why I brought up this suggestion.
And you're right...technically speaking by post count...I am a newbie but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out alot of this stuff and I have installed dishes before. It does however take a rocket scientist to figure out the new bins.

Your post count (270) is above "newbie"...and would have displayed "Knows FTA"...except for the fact that you are paid VIP member...so it doesn't reflect your actual rating.
You must have quite a fan club following to get a rep rating of (56) with only (270) posts. lol (compare to mine)
And maybe your just reading between the lines about the General Chit Chat area.
It says not to post for help there, because it is not specific to any particular receiver...and we want those questions to go to their correct sections.
But all else is "fair game" and we have that section to cover all else that doesn't fall into a specific receiver forum.
After this site grew so large, we broke it down and gave more areas to divide the load in the chit chat area.
One example of this is the new "humor" section. (which used to be under chit chat)
However, if ever in doubt about where to post something...put it in the General Chit Chat area & if we find it not appropriate to be there...we can move it.

I think this comes from my willingness to help others with whatever problems they may encounter and since I am a quick learner, I can easily help in the things which I have learned. Also, I test CW600p, cw700, and cw800 which seem to be very popular stb's.
I also offer suggestions on things other people agree with.
And I also help others with other stuff and not only do the people that I help with that stuff appreciate it, so do other people that notice how much I have been helping out since my short time here.
It also helps that I am bilingual.
Alot of this stuff is common sense and when it comes to stuff like that...it doesn't matter what brand the STB is so I can also help out with that at times.
And since I did alot of research and continue to do research on FTA, I have provided many links with very useful information that those that aren't so computer savvy would have a hard time finding.
There are a few great people on here and I myself am surprised with all the rep points I have recieved so far and if it wasn't for Jose...I wouldn't even know they existed. So thanks Jose....I think he was the first one to give me some rep points.

Nope, not selling myself or making a resume, I'm simp,y stating the facts that got me so many rep point is such short time.
And I would never want to be a mod....seems like too much work on a site like this.
I just speak my mind and I wear a life jacket so if what i say rocks the boat, then you best know how to swim or have a life jacket on as well. But seriously...if what I say rocks the boat as you say...then my words getting noticed is exactly the effect I am looking for.
My points may not always be right but I will always stress them strongly as adults that want to get their points across should. It's like swinging a bat in baseball...if you're in it just for the fun then swinging the bat lightly might get you a hit every now and then but if you're serious about what you do, then you will have to follow through with your swing so the hits come more frequently and are much harder.
I'm not here to be against anybody or to rile anybody up...I'm just strong minded and VERY STRAIGHT FORWARD and sometimes it helps weed out the fake friends in real life but at the same time it helps strengthen my relationships with my real friends.
Alot of people are afraid to be the messenger...I'm not, so alot of people applaud me for being the way I am cause sometimes they don't have the courage or don't want the drama that comes along with it. Soooo, I will be remembered either way by both the people that think I'm just a nut job or by those that admire the things I do that they would rather not do themselves but wish somebody else would do.
In the end...I just want what's right for everybody and on here...helping out is what's right and as long as I am allowed, that's what I will do.

Re: I want to make a suggestion.
How is it jacked SJ? Made a comment about referring to cholito, and made a comment in regards to getting hired for a job and being bilingual. I think it was a relevant comment and an opinion which we are all entitled too. Cholito wasn't asking for a job as a mod here, also if the work load is too heavy then promote more mods, and sometimes rolling with the punches isn't for everyone....Just my thoughts.
Thanks,
TB

I was only kidding bro...
If anybody jacked it, it was me.
That's what was so funny.
All is good...
