Are you running Vista by chance? If so you have to run that command as an elevated command in other words with admin privledges. Find the command prompt short cut in your start menu right click it and choose run as administrator. You have to type it just like this ipconfig /release with a space between the G and the forward slash. Then either restart your computer so it grabs another i.p or type ipconfig /renew again with a space between the G and the forward slash to force it to grab another i.p right away. In some instances you MAY grab the same i.p but if you try it again and again it will eventually grab another.
