Primestar Dish
I had someone drop off an old Primestar dish, its pretty good size kind of oval. I have no idea what the LNB is, looks like a "shark fin" Anyone have an idea what this Dish could be used for. Thank you...

Re: Primestar Dish
If I am not mistaken that has to be a LNB for True FTA Satellites. Not quite sure though.
Please attach a Pic of it and we may be able to help you better.

Re: Primestar Dish
Skip the wifi, is works other dishes will work just as well for this application.
Modification depends on the Primestar dish, some had a LNB you could remove and expose a saddle. Other type had a more permanent fixture.
All Primestar dishes with original LNB had a Linear LNB.
Problem with these LNB's is that the horizontal queue had to have a maintained voltage. This STB in a receiver request is not common. Work a rounds can be attained.
So this brings us back to the dish.
I have successfully used the removable type LNB for circular and soon will try linear LNB testing.
In the past I have added lateral rods to give me options for multiple LNB reception. A lot of work with this application..
At present time I will be motorizing this dish with a combo LNB that will provide circular or linear reception.
Will update later when the Primestar has the motor attached. Deterrent for many will be the Primestar post mount diameter, very rugged.

Reposted comment with corrections, since this was in an English thread.

Re: Primestar Dish
Thanks for the input, i am going to dig the thing out of my garage an at least see if the LNB can be switched. not real sure how good it is. The prime star dish might work better then my 39" dish, i am having no luck with it an 123W..

Re: Primestar Dish
also some of the primestar lnbs had two outputs on the back, one for vertical and one for horizontal, so if you use it you have to hook up two lnb coax wires and scan each to get all the transponders.hope this helps

I thought that I would give this a bump.I am not sure about the sw21 switch but you can use a disqce switch and you have to scan each one seperatley for the vertical and horizontal.
