pirates unite!
"If you are viewing this, you are a PIRATE"... ALRIGHT MATEE turn off the venus and stop pulling the jib!
I say lets all randomly call 1-800-333-3474 and thank them for those nice satellite signals they keep sending us WITHOUT our permission, after all we are free to breath the air, why is this satellite signal any differant... is it a crime on a sunny day to slap on some tanning lotion and lay out on the deck to get a tan? Is it a crime to turn on the radio and listen to the music? If there are satellite signals streaming down on my house 24/7 and I have no choice wheather I want them or not, who is in the wrong? Am I a pirate for breathing the air, or letting the sun shine on my face?
The DN pirate channel is all about "turning yourself in" so you can just keep on getting about half the stuff you've already been getting for free, only now they want you to pay $31.99 per month... no questions asked! WOW are they ever great people!!! What kind of crack have they been smoking? Talk about stoooopid!
So I say go ahead, give them a call but be sure to thank them for all the great stuff they keep sending us, like the air we breathe and the sun in the sky... it's always FREE! Maybe one day they'll go the way of DTV, but so what... that'll be cracked soon too. Someone once said "stupid is what stupid does".

Hey brother, I doing good thanks to a lot of your help, got some RG11 coming via UPS, let you know how the motor works once it's all hooked up. As for the sat, I've never been short of a good signal from our beloved birds, my prob has just been the motor that moves my dish... I'm hoping the RG11 will fix that little prob.
As for the pirate rant, that's just because I just got a bit sick of the "pirate" channels on DN, figured it would be great if we all "spammed" DN's pirate phone number and fired a few monkeys in their wrenches ;-)

Looks like wordup found (and watched) the Pirate Channel.
Maybe they should change the name to Smoke & Mirrors?

Some people don't have to watch the "Pirate Channel"
They have a free to air receiver that allows you to delete unwanted channels.
Now thats cool!!

Yeah, my friend told me when she was going thru deleting channels, the ones starting with FREE had Mr. Dish Policeman saying "if you are seeing this chanel you are a pirate!" How is that accomplished by DishTV? Does their program check what type of receiver you are using or what. Just curious.

Of course not man...how could anybody know what satellite receiver you have or have not?
The only way they know anything is if you use their equipment & plug your phone line into it.
Your FTA unit don't use a phone...and if it did...still you wouldn't plug it in.
And if you believe what they say on Pirate TV channel...maybe I should just tell you to send your money to me for helping you watch TV...it works for them (sometimes).
So if your scared...send me your $$ every month & I will continue to let you watch TV...OK? lol
Smoke & mirrors...

Let me rephrase my post. I'm already paying DirecTV every month and am testing with DishTV on a CaptiveWorks. No friend involved but was trying to play by the rules where we don't admit to anything. So.... my question is why don't people that have a paid subscription see those channels starting with FREE that talk about pirates. Why are they seen by me when testing. Is it sw or hw? I said nothing about believing what they said or being scared, I was asking a question trying to understand how it's done. I used to have DishTV and changed to DirecTV because you don't need the phone connected with DirecTV unless you purchase PPV... and even then you don't need it connected until your card fills up - at that point all you do is connect the phone and it loads the info up and you are billed for PPV. Or in my case, I don't have a land line anymore and they said if I don't connect via phone and my card is filled with PPV, my service stops and I would have to mail my card back for them to bill and they would send me another card. So you don't really need a phone line at all with DirecTV. With DishTV it is required to be connected to a phone line and they even charge you $5/month if you don't keep the phone line connected. So the two are different in the way they they are implemented. card/no card phone/no phone. So ..... if it isn't the type receiver you use, then it must be the programming they do... but what are they doing their if's then's on?
If this is still a stupid question, or no one knows the answer, just let me know that. But please don't read anything into my posts that I don't state.

They broadcast the Pirate channels just like all the others, but they do not offer those channels to their customers lineup...you get it all when you scan for birds on FTA...very simple.
Nobody gets DirecTV with FTA...so don't bother trying.
But about the same stuff is available on other networks that we DO get...such as DN or BEV & many more.
There is nothing called DishTV...there is DirecTV & Dish Network.
Hey friend...don't get excited...we just have a little fun here at times...and no question is dumb.
The Pirate channels are there to scare a few folks into paying for TV...it works for them...thought it might work for me too...afterall, I need it more than they do. lol (just a joke)
Get that CW working on DN and stop giving away all your $ for TV (it started out free...it still should be) That's why we have to watch commercials...remember?

Ok, thanks for explaining. I've always had the installer set up either Dish Network or DirecTV and never watched what they did. I have disconnected DirecTV and reconnected it and it went into "searching for satellite" and then did a load of something.... which I assumed was the channel list I subscribed to. So I guess what you are saying is that they filter out channels when they load on your receiver, whereas our testing has no filter so we get everything and then we filter what we want out by deleting the channel! Makies sense.
I have it all tested on my CaptiveWorks and see 119/110 channels (thanks to help on this site). I'm tweaking a little and getting favorite lists, etc. Right now I just have them in alpha order. I hesitate in dropping my paid DirecTV service as if I have company over, I don't want to explain the "scrambled channel" message or interruption of music on the music channels. I'm ok with paying for basic service, and testing the Premium Movie and PPV channels when it's just me here. I am however thinking about getting the very basic Time Warner cable for $10 bucks/month since I switched to roadrunner rather than DSL and use VOIP rather than a land line. Rarely do guests watch movies when there are here but the TV is on for "noise". If they wanted a movie, I'm sure there is a PPV on TW like there is on DirecTV/Dish Network, and I could dust off my CDs and use them for music. And if something happens where my testing fails for an extended time, all I have to do is pick up the phone an upgrade my existing subscription. Lots of options I guess.

satellitemania,
Just think of FTA like an AM radio. Nobody knows who is tuning in, unless you call them and make a request. Or, they call and ask what station are you listening to? Radio DJs used to do that in the old days.
So, the only way they will know is if someone calls and tells them.
Know anyone who is going to make that call ??
I didn't think so...
I ain't sayin' nothin' to no one !!!

I realize if they would be interested in arresting me, then they would be going after everyone like me ... the jails are overflowing already and don't think they are going to push out a murderer to make room for me because of my satellite testing - don't think the government would take taxpayer dollars and make new jails just for us because the satellite companies are greedy. And don't think the little people like us testing have tons of money for them to sue. They are even resorting to scare tactics - and that just confirms they don't know how to stop this. Just be glad we don't live in Germany. My nephew told me they have to pay the GOVERNMENT x amount to have a TV in the house and you get the government channels for that x amount that no one watches... others channels are paid for on top of that. I asked what if you say you don't have a TV and he said they come to your house unannounced to check and if they find one, you are in big trouble so everyone report the TV if they have it. How would you like to watch Bush all day! Yuck!!!!
