FTA reception (facing wrong way)

I was researching installing a satellite dish and receiver, when I was told that it had to face either southeast or southwest. I live in an apt which unfortunately faces due north. I can only mount the dish outside my window and at best face due east or due west. Are there any signals I can pick up given my situation or different hardware I can use?

Your research is correct, you need to be able to aim your antenna true south.

What about Echostar? I was told that signal comes from the east.

No it's south east and south west nothing straight east or west and it's closer to south then south east.
