FTA and CABLE TV...switch conflict???
Hey all,
I looking for some help in order to make my TVs work with FTA and cable without having to switch wires connections manually. With N3 in place blocking most part of the channels, I ended up having to go back to the billing period on a major cable company but still would like to keep using the FTA receivers to enjoy some ppview while still last. Problem is, every time I want to switch between cable and satellite, I need to manually switch wires connections in order to get signal properly. I used to have 2 wires running to my house, one with cable signal for the internet going to a modem and the other with satellite signal from the antennas to my TVs receivers (1 SV-8000 and 1 VS-MAX HD). Since I signed up for TV with cable as well, I put a 2-way splitter under the roof (1 in - 2 out; 5-900mhz), to send the signal from the cable co. to my modem and tvs receivers. Thing is, I was hopping to be able to use a switch (2 in - 2 out)that could carry the signal from the satellite OR from the cable to the receivers and just choose the inputs (HDMI or component) depending on witch receiver I would like to use, but it seems I'm having a problem with the switch not powering up properly cuz the only way to make things work is keeping the wires separate. Does anyone know if I need a different kind of switch to make it work and what kind would that be????
Any help is appreciated.

Re: FTA and CABLE TV...switch conflict???
Now that was a hard read heh. The Enter button's there for a reason buddy
I'm not quite sure what you're trying to do as Cable has nothing to do with FTA (which is Dish Satellite). You're saying you want to use a switch that can combine cable and dish signals?? Impossible.

itain already told you the thing.
You cant do that.

Re: FTA and CABLE TV...switch conflict???
Ok. Very simple. Connect your cable input wire directly to the receiver Antenna Connction. External Antenna Connection that is.
So you have the satellite cable going to the Satellite input and the Cable connection to the External Antenna Connection.
Now, when you need to watch cable all you need to do is switch off the receiver with your remote and you will be watching cable service and you will change the channels with your TV remote.
Cable to splitter and one to the modem and one to the Receiver will work fine.

Re: FTA and CABLE TV...switch conflict???
"Problem is, every time I want to switch between cable and satellite, I need to manually switch wires connections in order to get signal properly". One splitter required. If you want your internet and cable TV and Satellite, real easy. Use a standard cable splitter and run one to Modem for your internet, the other direct to TV. Run the Sat cable direct to STB and RCA cables from STB to TV. Most STB remotes are programmable, then just use the STB remote for both TV and STB. No need to turn anything on or off except the TV. Use the input button on remote to go from Cable TV to STB, or DVD etc etc.

Re: FTA and CABLE TV...switch conflict???
Connect the cable directly to the tv and have your FTA box connected with your audio vedio cable to the tv. With your remote you should be able to switch from one to the other without having to change cables

I'm still not sure what you're trying to accomplish as you'll end up having to connect both cables to the TV/receiver anyhow. Why not just use different video inputs?
A diplexer might still weaken the strength and leak signal.

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough on what I was trying to do, but basically I had wires from my sat running to 2 TVs and and 1 wire from a cable co. running into my modem for internet. I added TV to my cable package as well and still wanted to keep using sat at the same time than cable without having to manually switch wires. What I needed was to be able to combine signals from sat and cable on 1 wire and split them again for 2 receivers (1 for sat and 1 for cable). Using just a spliter wasn't working because of frequencie issues. Turns out that I needed diplexers, to combine the signals from both (cable and sat) and split them again. This way, when I want to switch between cable and sat, I just need to use my remote without the need of changing wires on the back of receivers. Was that clear enough now or still confusing??? Anyway, everything is fine now. Thanks for the help to those who tried to help and for those who need any help tring to do the same...feel free to ask.
