Could use a little computer set up help

Hey everyone. I'm not the most computer savy person in the world and could use some help setting up a powerline ethernet conection.
Right now I'm useing dsl, with a westell model 6100 modem. At this time I'm useing the usb conection on the modem to conect to my computer. My question is, can I just use the eithernet port on my computer to hook up my powerline adapter, or do I need to be hooked up to the internet with ethernet? If not what do I need to make this work. Thanks for any help!

Re: Could use a little computer set up help

most modems allow you to use an ethernet connection or a USB connection, it doesnt really matter....****B is supposed to be slightly faster but im sure the average user would not even notice the difference.....

the USB option is really there incase you are already using the ethernet connection for something else, like networking another computer to that one, or multiple computers through a hub or switch.....

to make a long story short...****e either one.....lol

Thanks Bill. So I guess what your saying is that I can keep everything the same and just run my cat 5 cable out of the computer to the powerline deal. Is that correct

That Westell DSL modem is also a router. You should be able just to run a cat5 cable to your powerline adapter. Plug and play.

BTW way you dont run the cat5 cable from the puter to the powerline adapter. Run the cat5 cable from the open port on your Westell Modem/Router to the powerline adapter then connect the second powerline box to the reciever.
