SD unit no "see" HD?
Hi,
Found some spare time today(not very often)took the equipment out to the dish and made another attempt to find the fourth sat I have been looking for. About an hour into it, beep, beep, beep, there is was. So after a scan to see what could be found, I discovered something.
This sat has SD and HD channels. My receiver is SD only. I picked up several channels. But, nothing HD. This made me think that an SD receiver will not get ANY signal from an HD channel. Is this thinking correct?

i will assume you are talking about DN HD channels.....the reason why your SD receiver will not scan these in is because your receiver is an MPeg-2 receiver.....DN HD channels are broadcast in MPeg-4 format.....
BEV HD channels are broadcast in MPeg-2 format, so your receiver actually would scan in these channels, you just wouldnt be able to view them.....
so it really doesnt have anything to do with HD or SD.....your MPeg-2 receiver can only scan in MPeg-2 channels....HD or SD is irrellevant.....
when you buy an HD receiver, it is an MPeg-2 receiver out of the box.....so it is capable of receiving MPeg-2 channels only (SD or HD).....
when you add in the external module/board, this board is basically upgrading the receiver from an MPeg-2 receiver to an MPeg-4 receiver.....so after the install your receiver can now scan and view MPeg-4 channels......

Bill Of Oz,
Interesting info. Some of that was my best guess on why. Now we know for sure.
