PVR for SV8000HD?
With some functions of my new SV8000HD receiver working,(blasted HD still will not) I thought it was time to check out the PVR function. Well, here we go again, another problem. If I plug in a simple jump drive, thumb drive, call it what you want, it shows it would record programs to it. But when an 80GB hard drive in a case is attached, the receiver states there is nothing to record to. From what I have read, that is what you are to use for recording TV programs off the unit. Not very useful function if all you can use is a thumb drive! Do you SV pros have an idea?

Re: PVR for SV8000HD?
If you hook up an external hard-drive via usb, you have to make sure that it is formated to fat32, or the sonicview will not recognize it.

Re: PVR for SV8000HD?
Yes, Eclipsemoon is right. Plus the SV8K seems to be a little sensitive on some units as far as plugging things in and removing them. Sometimes it says it doesn't recognize it. I have heard it is best, if not in use, when you turn the SV8K off from the rocker switch, that you remove the hard drive connection. Because when turning back on the receiver and it boots up, it sometimes doesn't recognize the hard drive. It may be ok with yours, but like I said, I've heard of some sensitive ones. Good luck, let us know how you are doing. Thanks

It is fat32 and the 8000 will not recognize it no matter what I try.

Re: PVR for SV8000HD?
Friend has Ipro with a Linux partition. Had same problem and her fix was to let boot as normal with everything connected and then pull the HDD power supply pigtail, go have a beverage, and then reinsert PS. Recongnized and no problem since. Worth a try
All of the poster are correct; SV uses FAT32.
