New FTA setup on the east coast
Hello. I am new to FTA and ABADSS.COM and have spent over a week researching and may now be more confused than I was before I started. I am on the US east coast (North Carolina) and want to set up a FTA receiver. I have nothing at this point, but based on the research, I think the nFusion 8000HD is the way I want to go.
Can you help me determine what hardware, from the satellite dish(s) I will need to the wires?
From what I have gathered, I will have to purchase the receiver, a psk module, a satellite dish, hdmi cable, wiring from the dish to the receiver.
I have been told that I need to access satellites 110, 119 and 129. I have also been told that I can not access 129 on the east coast, and will have to resort to 61.5.
I have also been told I can get all three satellites with one dish and I have been told I have to have two dishes, one that will pick up 110 and 119 and one that will pick up 129 or 61.5.
I have not been able to find definite answers to my questions, so can I get a little help or pointed in the right direction to get set up correctly? What satellite dish do I need to get? Do I have to have multiple dishes? Can I use a used Dish Network dish I find on craigslist or ebay?
I don't want to start buying stuff and then it not work. I think I have already done that buy buying a used DTV Slimline dish and was told that DTV will not work for FTA.
Thanks in advance for all help you can provide me. I'm excited about becoming a member of the club!

Re: New FTA setup on the east coast
Thanks! So gaining access to 129 is not a problem from the east coast? I see you are in SC and assume that's what you are using?

Re: New FTA setup on the east coast
A few more questions:
1) How do I position my satellite to pick up all 3? Direction, coordinates, etc?
2) I see that you can record TV to a USD external HDD with nFusion. Does it have to be a certain one and does it have to be formatted a particular way? Or do you just plug it up right out of the box?
3) Does the recording function work like a cable DVR box, meaning can you program shows and times to record, or do you have to hit a record button as you are watching?
Thanks again.

Re: New FTA setup on the east coast
I have another question regarding the satellite dish. I have a Slimline dish with the HD lnb from DTV. Can i keep that dish and replace the LNB to get FTA or do I need to get a new dish and LNB all together? Basically, is the DTV dish and LNB no good for FTA?

Re: New FTA setup on the east coast
Slimline is not suitable for this application. Save yourself, time and effort and get a new dish set up with the correct LNB's. A dish 1000.2 would be a good choice.

Re: New FTA setup on the east coast
Hello, I am new to FTA and to ABAdss and so far you seem to have some very good information! I am replying to this post because the original poster seemed to have the same questions I have. The only difference is that I have a couple of older fta receivers, one is a Digiwave 7000 and the other says BOB on the front but someone told me it looks like a Pansat. I have heard that the Digiwave may be outdated, but I'm not sure.
I suppose my question is, if I decide to keep these, could I use the DN 1000.2 with them? I checked out the Sat finder web app and it answered my sat questions, but the equipment is a whole different monster!
I too am on the east coast, Northern NJ/South East NY.
Thanks in advance!

Re: New FTA setup on the east coast
nope those old receivers are junk and will not work, buy a nfusion, kbox, cnx or ilink ,in that order. You will need a constant internet connection.

Re: New FTA setup on the east coast
Ugh, thanks. That was what I was afraid of. I wanted to run a cheap setup for a cabin I go to in SE NY. Initially I was going to set it up at my house which is 1.5 hours SE of the location. I wanted to bring the whole thing up when I wanted to use it. I may have to bag the whole thing, since I don't have internet there as well...
Is there any way I can do this on the cheap? Or am I being too.. er, cheap?
Thanks!
BTW, yamaha, nice avatar...

Re: New FTA setup on the east coast
Yeah unfortunately internet is a must, at this time it cannot be done without it. If you get internet u could pick a nfusion solaris and a dish with lnb for about $200

Re: New FTA setup on the east coast
Hello, I'm new on this site
my 2 cents: 1.IKS is not a viable solution and vulnerable 2. I would go with a motorized 36'' dish and dual LNB (linear + circular)....While in the blackout, I'm still enjoying international FTA with many other birds (over 250++channels).
This is a hobby after all..!

Re: New FTA setup on the east coast
unless you want to spend alot of money I would go with the 1000.2 dish less than $100, as for a receiver you have to decide that one, everyone will say something diff. But I will stand behind the 1000.2 dish and I have tried 4 dif. dishes within 6months from the 1 meter with motor to the dish 500, super-dish. I ended with the 1000.2, just point it at 119 once thats done your almost done

Hello
I have the the 1000.4 Turbo dish I am in the Boston area. It is supposed to get the 61.5 72.7 and 77.0 Eastern arc birds. I get the first two no problem but no matter what I have tried I can't get the 77 Bird to show on the top window. I have had it lined up and get a strong signal on 77 .0 but the 72.7 Bird shows up. However When I do a scan I get some channels on 77.0 (47 TV -43 radio) Do you think it's better for me to buy a 1000.2 dish and shoot at the 119 and 129 birds? or is 72.7 and 61.5 birds enough??
THanks
Bohanna
