Dish Alignment Problems - LNB Bad ???

I replaced a single feed Ku-Band LNB that has been working great for several years with a dual LNB. I discovered after I installed the Dual LNB that it requires at least a 33" dish which my dish is not. I reinstalled the single feed LMB and that is where my problems begin...... I am trying to realign to Galaxy 19 at 97 Deg W. I can get no more than 39% signal quality on transponder 22 and 0 % on transponder 12. Is it possiable that the LNB is bad ?????? I checked the coax cable continuity and it is good.
I have been tweeking for three days... I do not know what to try next. I do not understand why there is no signal quality on Transponder 12. I have been watching channels on Transponder 12.

Re: Dish Alignment Problems - LNB Bad ???

Yes ... I set the Polarization to 20.4 Deg and the elevation is set at 39.6 and the AZ(M) is set to 215.7 as my base and I have been tweeking from those settings. I have read on an LNBF Manufactures site the an LNB can fail on certian frequencies and on a Horizintial or Vertiical Polarization mode. Have you and any experience with this type of parcial LMB failure ?

you need to give me more information.....what size dish are you using? which sat are you trying to get? give me the specific brand and model numbers of both the LNBs you are trying to use......what receiver are you using? what file do you have installed? are you using any switches? are you getting any other sats?

Re: Dish Alignment Problems - LNB Bad ???

You will find most of the infomation that you requestred in my original post. This installation has worked great for several years untill I atempted to change the LMB.
I have a Viewsat Pro Receiver a Wineguard 76 CM dish. The LMB is the only item that I have changed. I have no DiSec switchs or in-line amps; just 60 Feet of coax between that LMB and the Receiver.
I am asking can an LMB have a parcial failure ?

Re: Dish Alignment Problems - LNB Bad ???

Re-install the original lnb that was working before, then re-aim, when you have the dish aimed properly just swap the lnb, if it doesn't work the lnb must be bad because you know the dish is aimed properly,

If an lnb fails it will not come back to life if that's what your asking,

If you have a signal level (signal not quality) over 50 then that normally means you lnb is fine

Re: Dish Alignment Problems - LNB Bad ???

I have reinstalled my original LMB that was working fine and only can get on average 33% signal quality. I have a new LMB on order. I think that I may have damaged the original LMB that was working when I was swaping LMBs back and forth. I will let you know when I the new LMB installed.
Note: The Viewsat PRO Receiver Owners Manual Page 7.2 states Signal Strength and Quality. You adjust for maximum quality

Re: Dish Alignment Problems - LNB Bad ???

If your dish is smaller then 33 inches like you said, then I would say a quality reading of 30-40 is very good, 97w is a weak bird and generally requires a 36+ inch dish,

I hope you ordered a linear lnb and not a circular one,

Quality is the signal you are receiving from the satellite, so yes you aim your dish to get a maximum quality reading,

Signal reading tells you that you have a good connection to your dish and your lnb is working,

Re: Dish Alignment Problems - LNB Bad ???

Sorry about the typo that should be LNBF.... I am pretty sure that I damaged my original LNBF when I was swaping back and forth. There were several times that I caught myself swaping the LNBF with the recevier power turned on. I was very carefull when I installed my new LNBF and made sure that the recevier was unpluged before I made and LNBF connections. The new LNBF works great and gets a better picture and I get all of the channels that I got before plus several more... Thanks to those of you that were willing to help and make sugestions.
