Which Receiver To Buy / Server Questions
i have been reading alot about the different IKS servers and im getting alot of conflicting info,
my question is, which receivers are on the same server, and which have their own servers? i have read that CNX and Satzen and ILink are all on the same server, is this true? the receivers im considering are satzen, cnx, ilink, and sonysat, i guess im looking for the most channels up on both providers, and least downtime, i guess thats pretty much what everybody wants, lol does anybody have any links to any screenshots of these receivers? like the OSD and EPG, i have a motorized dish, are they all compatible with it? thanks |

Re: Which Receiver To Buy / Server Questions
Nano2 servers are not the same as all other models of CNX. (Nano1 / Duo / Trio / Mini)
From what I observed the other day...it might be that I-Link also uses the same servers as Nano2. Which leaves Satzen in the same group with Nano1 & the other CNX models. However, all 3 (Satzen / CNX / I-Link) are very similar with available channels. If you wish to be outside this group, go for Sonysat...because it has no relation. (but it is less popular for some reason?) The Limesat is too new to know where it fits in yet. (Topsat is new too) Also we have Sonicview up too & I think it is on it's own. (but had a long down time not far back) All this will drive you crazy trying to figure out. Are you confused yet? lol I wouldn't worry so much about servers...because we only know what we have been able to figure out on our own. It's kind of like God...we know we got one...but we can't find him or get any answers. The servers just do their job & we see the results. I think all receivers will work with a motorized dish setup these days. Of the current iks units available, I guess the CNX has the longest track record. Most iks solutions started out with an external device (dongle / hub / link) but now most all have that device built into the unit. (internal) Example: Nano1 uses an external Dongle (IX-100 or IX-200)...now it is replaced by Nano2. (with built in Dongle) And the built in type are cheaper. (the Dongle was about $100.) Bottom line is price these days.

Re: Which Receiver To Buy / Server Questions
A lot of these servers use different ports...such as sv I think has 3 ports whereas someone's sv could be down while someone elses could be up...seems to be happening with some of the others now...I believe the Satzen and CNX nano/mini/duo/trio use the same server while the ilink and nano2 uses another...I've been seeing where ilink and nano2 are down while my satzen and nano are up...eventually we may see more ports opening up on each server for all makes because of the demand...who knows?

Re: Which Receiver To Buy / Server Questions
The nano2 is definately on a different server than the cnx dongle units
In regards to sonysat it probably would be more popular if you could find a place to buy one...lol |

Re: Which Receiver To Buy / Server Questions
Thanks I always thought the cnx nano 2 and the satzen is on the same server so if my cnx nano 2 goes down then the satzen shouldn't right?? I also thought that the I-Link was involved so in a way its great that the i-link and the satzen is on the same server and not the nano 2 and satzen unless i'm wrong.

Re: Which Receiver To Buy / Server Questions
They should all be compatible with your motorized dish. They would not be much good as True FTA unit without that.
You should also consider PVR functions. Remember that on the CNX Mini/Nano/Nano2 the PVR is a software based bonus and limited. If you want full PVR in the CNX line you need to consider the Duo or Trio. |

Re: Which Receiver To Buy / Server Questions
I would go Kbox. I won't reveal how I got or rather who revealed this information to me but they are the most "secure" in my mind.
They hide their true server information. They connect to a server and an exchange starts with a secret key for encryption being sent and the server sends a "function code" for the box to use that is not in the bin. At the end of that exchange the server sends the i.p of the real server encrypted...and the exchange stops. The khub than starts the decryption of the new server i.p and disconnects from the old server and the exchange of CW's continues from there.... Now I was told by this same person who again has analyzed this information that the algorithm that Kbox uses is far superior to that of SV. Sorry but I won't reveal who shared this with me....but he is very "involved" in the FTA community. |

Re: Which Receiver To Buy / Server Questions
My local satellite store (Western Canada) has CNX Nano2 for $200. KBOX Prodigy with KHUB also $200. I see online that he still trying to see Nfusion HD $409 and the Phoenix for $230. Only 3 places that I know of to buy FTA receivers in the city. Might have to do some rounds this week and see what everyone has.
