Receiver setup question?
Hello to all,
Thanks for the great info!!
I have another question though. I need to know if there is a way to hook up two receivers to one TV with one line from satellite. I do not want to run them at the same time, I just want the ability to switch back and forth. I have the Sonicview 4000, and the DN 301. I have read about using the looping method, but I am unsure how to do it?
You are wondering why I need to do this, so here it goes. My elderly father lives with me and he likes to watch the International stations on my 50" Sony.
The DN remote is simple for him to use, and it works for him. The sonicview remote is too complicated for him to use. He cannot figure out how to power-on the TV and the Sonicview, and then keep it on the Sat mode for channel changing.
What I need to know is if I can hook up both so he can watch what he wants on the DN receiver. and I can use the Sonicview, at different times of course.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated .
Thanks

Re: Receiver setup question?
why dont you just use the y/pb/ pr to feed seperate inputs to the tv from the 2 STBS (most TVs now have 2 or 3 of those inputs) and get a simple A/B coax switch and switch the dish between receivers when needed. if you do this, make sure there both off when you do it just to be safe. that should be simple to go from 1 to the other pretty quickly and cheaply.
good luck

Re: Receiver setup question?
Hi Everyone, I have a similar question about connecting two different satellite receivers to one TV, a VCR, and a DVD player. What complicates things is that I have an older TV that only has a coaxial input so I have to use an RF modulator for the DVD. I have two different RF modulators actually. One is a basic model which allows only a coaxial cable and one device to be attached. The other allows for up to four devices and is supposed to have auto sensing. Oh yes, I was also trying to hook things up so I could listen to the TV through my Stereo system, which is also older and has only limited inputs/ outputs. Thanks for your help, Felinegirl

Re: Receiver setup question?
Get cable wire coming LNB' connect it to STB#1 ,add 1 coax cable , fromSTB #1 TV out and connect it to coax A/B switch input 1,either wireless or manual switch,,, get another coax cable connect it to Sat output,,loop output ,if output on STB#1 the other end connect it to STB#2 SAT IN Connector,,,,,get another ,coax wire connect it to STB#2 TV out connector, the other end plug it into Coax A/B switch input #2,,,,,and just add one more coax cable ,,connect it to Coax A/B switch output ....and finally connect the other end to your TV coax connector......done

Re: Receiver setup question?
Thanks for responding Peps54. Unfortunately, you lost me at the first "A/V" switch mention. What is that? Felinegirl

Re: Receiver setup question?
Coax A/B switch ,,you have 2 inputs one output for the TV,,can be switched manually or wireless ,,,in your case you would probably need a A/B/C/D switch with 4 inputs A )for one StB# 1 B) for STB#2 C)for VCR and D) for dvd player with one output going to you TV

Re: Receiver setup question?
Thanks for the help guys.
Just a thought, can I just use an old cable splitter and reverse it. Ex: output from both STB's into splitter,1 cable to TV?

Re: Receiver setup question?
you can do what you just said split it at the incomming sat cox then run 2 off to the lnb in and you can just switch just make sure that you have one off before the next one is on .. it is not the greatest thing to do because of the different voltages that can sweep back to another reciever throught the slplitter .. but it is your stuff ..
i would just buy a multi switch and run both safely

Not recomended ,especially if you connect them both at the same time,,,,,,also the odds of shorting out the STB,while unpluging,,and pluging of the coax cable to the splitter is high..,,,,
