Local Chn Region
If you live in one area (ex. like Atlanta, GA), and you like to set your local region to another area (like Greensboro, NC)....why can't you view those NC channels.
VS Ultra in use.

Re: Local Chn Region
Go to lyngsat.com and check to see if the channels you are looking for are available in your area. It might be that the channels you are looking for are spot beamed they may or may not be available where you live depending on the coverage of the spot beam.

Spot beams are just for one spot or area, such as a major city.
If you live outside that spot beam area...you can not get them.
This is being done mostly on the West coast areas.
However, for folks outside the spot beam areas should be able to select any city for the Locals. (I just never tried it)
For CoolSat the Locals will be from Channels 1 - 100. (not sure about VS)
But you will get all the locals (outside the spot beams) on your higher channel numbers.
Look for all channels that have 4 letters & begin with "W" as in WABC or WCBS etc.
Have fun...you only got about 800 channels to search in.

Re: Local Chn Region
According to http://ekb.dbstalk.com/E10spots/e10spots.pdf the area in NC is in the same spot beam and my location in GA....both in spot beam 6. From what I'm now understand is that I should be able to view the NC chns correct?

Only one way to find out...try it & see.
I think you are good...based on what you found.
I get so many cities...it's too many to figure out.

Re: Local Chn Region
After seeing that the NC chns are in my same spot beam as GA (spot 6), I've been through every chn one by one and still no NC chns are there.

I'm not a VS tester so not sure how it works...but for CoolSat we can select a city & state under "options for locals" so I would try to select Charlotte...wipe unit clean with database reset (to remove channels) then select what you want & autoscan to get them.
I never tried another city...but seems it should work.
All locals are found on Sat 110.
Here are the Locals for Charlotte NC:
3 WBTV
4 WUNC
9 WSOC
18 WCCB
30 WNSC
36 WCNC
42 WTVI
46 WJZY
55 WWWB
64 WAXN
* Maybe this will be helpful for you friend...at least now you know what call letters to look for.

No I didn't say that...but yes I am getting those channels...they really work.
I didn't get those numbers off a chart...got 'em off a TV.
I was giving you the call letters so you can look for them in the high channel numbers.
Start the search at about #550 & go up from there.

Re: Local Chn Region
Didn't have any of those, locals set to on and Charlotte, NC set as the local region although the location of STB would be Atlanta, GA. Both location appear to have the same spot beam.

Re: Local Chn Region
Hey SatelliteJunkie, I did a factory default and just loaded the PGM via the USB port - then I did a auto scan of both sats at the same time. It fixed a lot of my problems, even the ones I hadn't had a chance to speak of yet.
But guess what? I got them.....yes I got them...."Q" is weak (10 -24) but "S" is strong (80 steady), but I got them. Is there anything I can do about the weak "Q" strength.

Good deal friend.
Use a signal meter (ebay $20.) to tweak signal for peak strength.

Re: Local Chn Region
Would it really be worth trying to tweak it: I checked & I'm weak of 4 tp freqs. Of the 4 freqs I'm weak on, 1 is on the edge of my spot beam, the other 3 freqs are in 2 different spot beams next to me.

Yes it's worth it.
This is an exact science (pointing the dish)...guessing is for the lottery.
This cheap little tool is something you will always use when moving a dish.
I get a signal strength of 97% - 98%.
Sure you can see it OK for now with less than perfect signal strength...but just wait 'till it rains or snows...this is when it makes all the difference friend.

Re: Local Chn Region
Ok then, I had it professionally installed so I'm going to have to call the guy back out. I'll just tell him my signals are weak on 110.
BTW - I didn't mention that the signals are good on the other tps: on all other 110 the "S" is @ a steady 78 & "Q" is bouncing between 87 -100. On 119 the "S" is @ a steady 77 & the "Q" is bouncing between 85 & 99). That was why I ask if it was even worth it, never the less the installer will be getting a call from me within the hour....best believe that!!!!

I didn't know you paid someone else to set your dish.
But I will tell you that the minimum acceptable signal strength for satellite reception is 75%...just so you know.
I get 98% for DN 110 & 119.
Other birds like the ones in Canada BEV 82 & 91 will be less, due to greater distance.
Distant birds require a bigger dish to get a better signal.

Re: Local Chn Region
The installer just left & showed me that he's getting 95 + percent coming directly off the dish. He even switch the LNB's itself but everything remains the same.

OK, but did he check all 4 LNBs or just the one showing 95%+?
You can have one on & others off if not skewed or tilted correctly.
This is the problem with big dishes & multible LNBs.
