Will somebody help me help someone else?
Hello my name is mike i am a definate newbie!! I have an elderly gentleman that I work with that came in at Christmas telling me all the great things about FTA rec. but he couldn't get it to work. So he asked me if I could help him, being a little technical savvy I agreed. I have looked and read and looked and read but can't find any steps as to how to get this thing running. I have Dishnetwork at home with a Dish 500 sat dish and from what I have read there are a plethora of different types of equipment. So I will just tell you what I am working with and maybe a kind soul will give me a step by step procedure in which this piece of equipment can remain in 1 piece instead of a million. ha ha I am working with a cnx-mini it has a remote and a USB-port it also came with a 2.0 USB jumpdrive. when it is plugged up to my already working Dishnetwork Dish 500 and hooked up to my TV it won't even give a menu screen. I have checked multiple cords and multiple TV's still nothing. I have even connected a Fta rec that belongs to another gentleman at work same thing no menu. I am sure this is my error but can't figure it out. I appreciate any help anyone can give. thanks again, just another Rookie

Re: Will somebody help me help someone else?
At the moment there is no new firmware file for the CNX-Mini.
So it is likely just best to wait, then ask for some help.

I don't have a mini, so I don't know the unit, but here is a link that might shed some light on your issue...maybe.

Re: Will somebody help me help someone else?
You will need to setup the sat menu first need to know how many cables are connected to the dish LNB and what side it is connected too. On the the of the LNB it will have 110 and on the other side it has 119 and need to know how many connectors are on LNB I will be out for a few hours but I will check on you when I get back in. Talk to you then BYE !

Re: Will somebody help me help someone else?
You will need to run the two cables to a switch, your cnx will not run the enternal switch inside the dn dish lnb so you will need to either have to add a switch like a diseqe 4x1 and put 119 cable on lnb 1 and 110 cable on lnb 2 if your dish has a switch on it already that is a dn sw-21 you can program the box to use that switch also. I lost you in the forum and just found you been looking for hours I'll try to keep track of you and try to help you fix the setup won't take long to get you up and running talk to you tomarrow buddy

Re: Will somebody help me help someone else?
weird.
what connections are you using?
its for sure your connections if another working unit does not work either.
you probably have a bad cable/cables
are you using coaxial?
if so,make sure its plugged into the tv out.
try rca cables and set your tv to the correct video mode.
hope you figured this out by now and can at least see the menu system.
if you need help setting it up from there let us know.

Re: Will somebody help me help someone else?
Sorry clarencegriffit & arboristman;
My fulltime job takes me away from civilization for days at a time sometimes so I apologize for the appearance of "Lack of Interest" I just got home will check these things right away and repost. Was able to get a very dim picture using Rca cables to my tv. Enough to read menu but horrible picture (Is there something I can do about that?). Was only able to get the basic information channels you have when DN turns off your system till you pay. Do I still need to redo the circular(found a codeword Dict. haha) If so I have another Dish 500 I can set up or even have a dble lnb Dave Dish. Again I appreciate your help very much.

Re: Will somebody help me help someone else?
A dim picture does not sound good try to adjust color or brightness if you can but sounds like your in to some problems with your stb box, now if you are using your factory installed charlie antenna and have two cables coming all the way to your factory box one cable will be 110 and the other will be 119 you will just need to figure out witch is witch make sure on the back of your stb what channel is selected to broadcast on and the lnb connected to lnb in and tv connected to rf out that should help get you back on track for standard hookup if you have a manual look at it for general hookup if not google a search for the product and download it to your pc for reference later maybe this may help get you started to the right track for veiwing and you can go arbortisman post here and look at dish 500 connections also mods have a lot of neat stuff in there posts for setup too. be out for a while but will check on you later don't forget to thank everyone for there help see ya! clarencegriffit
