What is the best box for true fta?

The box should have blind scan, an accurate signal meter(not the inflated numbers on some boxes(cnx)), and excellent motor control. I would prefer a box with good support(viewsat,sonicview,captiveworks..etc), but I would buy a box that is just true fta. I already have a cnx duo and n-fusion. Any suggestions?

DO NOT get a Neosat ipro 2000 plus, it's been down more than it's been up.

Re: What is the best box for true fta?

Well, it's easy to set up, the installation wizard walks you through it, and it automatically scans the channels. The software can be updated (or changed, for testing) by USB or off the web. I had trouble setting up the internet connection because I am on a home network and it had issues with the settings (I think) but I'm not sure. Maybe that's why I could not connect to the IKS service and was down a lot of the time. But I got it figured out.

But the picture quality is very good, the remote a little akward (my Misses complains), the menus take a little getting used to where to look for what function. Sometimes it gets stuck and you have to reboot it, but you can usually recover or fix the problem.

This is my first unit, so you might want to keep asking around for more opinions on this and other units. I heard the Nfusions and Captains were good. Good Luck!

Re: What is the best box for true fta?

Joeyo, For true FTA a Qualitv receiver is the best that is out their, it is the ONLY receiver that is on the market that will do 4:2:0 & 4:2:2 in SD & HD along with all mpeg formats, but the receiver will not do dvb-s2 at all. but if you wanted dvb-s2 i would sujest the pansat-9000, they will do dvb-s2 right out of the box, where as the pansat-9200 wount do it an you have to add the dvb-s2 tunner, that sud be in dealers some time next week. an if you see the vidio from Qualitv in 4:2:2 in HD you will see the best vidio that you have ever viewed.
Good luck & good scanning the birds

Re: What is the best box for true fta?

i dunno how the ultra is at blind scanning and such.so i can't say one way or the other for that one.tho i don't think it was advised for what your looking for here.

pansat 9000 and neosat ipro 2k-neither have blind scan.so forget both of those.
a unit with no blind scan for true fta is kinda pointless as you know.

pansats are good blind scanners.but they are so buggy, slow channel changes/scrambled ch nag etc.they are a pain and buggy for true fta IMHO
the pansat 9200HD is good tho in that it supports hd of course, and also has ac3 audio decoding.many fta feeds you will need this,if you have a Dolby digital ss receiver, then you don't care anyway.anywho,id still stay away from pansat even for fta.
the other pansats are old,2500-3500.
yes,i have pannys -2700/2800/250sm/9200hd.not recommended.(the list of reasons is huge)

the captain 7100usb is a good one for true fta.good blind scanner.and the channel changes on true fta are SUPER fast! tho iv read the motor controls needs work!
captaiveworks are great for true fta as well.good blind scanning and motor controls.

hope this helps.
and keep in mind, many people may and will advise you on "other" reasons, and forget your after a decent true free to air unit.

Re: What is the best box for true fta?

Sup Fellas?

My VsPro has been cool to play around with. I'm fairly new to the world of FTA, but I must say it really is cool technology...esp if the SHTF and we need alternate communications. I like the Viewsat so far...they seem to have lots of support but like I said, this is new to me. An HD box is on the horizon, but I will give it some time and enjoy my VSPro for now. As I type this I am formatting my HD so I can use the DVR functionality...I can't wait to seee how well it works.

adios
