Hi there.

I'm trying to learn how keys play a part in the FTA world. I understand that keys are used to decode the encryption signal sent by DN (autoroll?), but I thought the .bin file did that.
How does a .bin file differ from the keys in relation to functionality?

ok keys are used in the decryption of video in fta when providers change keys you will loose picture untill keys roll back in has to do with mathimathical numers and alaphabet bin is another name for file for receivers.

bin is the file that tells the receiver where to locate the keys in the stream so that it can decode the encryption

Ok, that makes sense.
So the bin and keys don't depend upon one another.
I've got a Pansat 3500, currently. How do you type in the keys on this box? I haven't seen that anywhere in the settings (unless it's in the factory default...haven't snooped in there yet). Thanks!

yes the keys depend on the bin to tell them where to look the keys are continueously streaming

you have to go in to parental control there you will see nagra thats were you could change keys
