No support from Sonicview
Well, I have three SonicView 2 SV1000 and one 8000 just a few weeks ago purchased. And I regret now, I noticed that the SV1000 has problem and SV is not trying to fix anything. I did email them and got a non-sense reply.
I informed them that the voltage that SV1000 sends out is not correct and two SV have caused QHP-031 extra port to die.
SV replied to me that they can not help me with Dish setup.
I am not sure if they live in this planet or not But I talked to two rep from SV Tech, obviously none of them ever read my email. Aug 6 I did sent the email on 15 got a reply that does not make sense.
I did not ask them to fix my $79 lnb, just asked them to look at the problem with SV.
Well, my 2 cents;
If a distributor/manufacturer does not stand behind its products, there are others.
no wonder why they are giving out coupons.
If anyone interested I will send the email reply from Sonicview. Let me know.

Re: No support from Sonicview
I really don't think the problem is with the SV boxes as you suggest. We have many members with SV boxes that have no problem like you describe. It seems to me you have a setup issue with your LNB, or coax problem shorting out somewhere. If the coax is broke inside the cable, it will cause many different problems. I personally think Sonicview is at the top of the field with all there makes of STB. The SV-1000 is an older box that is still being supported and working well. We will be glad to try to help you. If you will list your LNB type, and your sat settings so we can take a look at it, maybe we can help you fix your problem. First thing I would check would be the coax. Try using top grade RG-6 coax. Let us know...

Re: No support from Sonicview
from the way i read your post you contacted sonicview about a dn set up problem
sonicview has nothing to do with dn
they sell thier stbs for free to air tv
your problem sounds like it has to do with third party software setup issues by the end user

Re: No support from Sonicview
Sounds like you might have connected/disconnected the coax when the box was plugged in, a big no-no.

Re: No support from Sonicview
JC7257, Thank you very much for your reply. MY RG6 Cables are new [ I have all the tools to make the cables etc].
I did tell SV what is the problem, which is a very long email.
I bought a SV1000, last year a SG2100 Motor a 33 dish and QPH-031 LNB with a 4X1 EMP-Centauri. Every thing was working fine, till I bought the 2nd SV1000 three months later and attached it to the 2nd feed on LNB via a different line and 4X1 Centauri swith.
same day the QHP-031 2nd feed stop responding. It simply died. I believed it was the falty LNB, however retailer refuse to honor the warranty and I talked to LNB manufacturer, they agree to replace it. However, it would cost $70 to ship it to England from Canada, for a $79 LNB.
Later I decided to have my 2nd TV so, I got another SV1000 a HH-90 motor and another QPH-031 and a a 4X1 centuri switch, with a brand new RG6 cable. Everything was fine, till, few weeks ago, we diceded to buy HD, got a 50 INCH Plasma a SV8000 and via a new RG6 cable and a new 4X1 Centuri we attached the SV8000 to the LNB. First thing we noticed the motor went nut and start spinning around. Then I was able to stop it via SV1000, however, noticed that SV8000 is not able to show all the channels, only certain ones however, when I was changing the channel on Sv1000 then SV8000 was able to show some others and not few others.
I did write it done and noticed its depend on frequency. Especially if SV1000 was on Horizontal would SV8000 could not show Verticals and vise versa.
On Aug 6 I wrote an email to SV usa, on Aug 15, someone, responded to do more testing.
I did more testing and as soon as I brought the 2nd SV from other room and attached it instead of SV8000 the LNBs' 2nd feed died.
So I wrote the result to the SV tech support and told them it seems that there is a problem with the voltage that SV sending out, the tech guy never responded so I wrote back to SV usa, and instead they responded as follow:
"Grace,
I will be happy to help you with problems concerning the operation of your receiver. However, I cannot provide help with setting up dishes, LNB’s, switches, etc. Each setup is different; If you can get the menu on your screen, then the receiver is working. "
SV's reply indicates that SV is not interested in customer support, specially when I asked about the tech guy SV responded "He does not represent Sonicview".
If he does not represent SV why I was referred to him in the first place??
I did not ask for LNB replacement and I told them I am not asking for anything just a support.
Even if SV is a top notch, the way SV handles the customers it makes it at the bottoms up of the no no list.
I am not sure why others are talking about DN or third party BINS? May be it is a good stand alone box as long as it is operational.
You be the Judge! does it worth to buy SV?

Re: No support from Sonicview
I can sympathise with your problem but its pretty hard to warranty stuff with a motor and lnb hooked up to it that could damage the stb, and 3rd party software I think voids the warranty anyway and they state that. I think basically if you take it out of the box the warranty is void, most warranties mean nothing and all the maker really has to say is that it has been abused. On ebay there are guys in Canada that fix that kind of stuff fairly cheap I think I have a guys email if youd like. I cooked 3 recievers myself last year by hooking them up wrong, they really are quite fragile things.

Re: No support from Sonicview
I have a 8000HD and a 360elite. The 8000 is hooked to a sg2100 motor and never a problem. Actually, to be honest it works better than I expected.
Did you have 2 stb's hooked into 1 motor? Is your setup grounded?
Sounds unfortunate, but if you post a bit more info we may be able to help you find a solution.

Re: No support from Sonicview
Only SV1000 controls the Motor, SV8000 is not going through Motor.
Just a note. I am not saying SV product is bad. It is a good product, however, what pissed me off is that they do not care about customer or customer care.
SV product are Electronic equipment and and time to time they get faulty.
It is unprofessional, to tell the customer that you have 2 years warranty and then when the problem arise you brush off the customer.
I did not ask them for money or return of product, replacment etc, I simply asked for support.
The issue I am trying to figure out is what has triggered the 2nd feed of LNB failure, for the 2nd time. I am sure it has something to do with the voltage.
Few months back when I talked to Invacom, they were surprised that the LNBs 2nd feed was dead, and that the retailer in BC canada did not want to honor the 5 years warranty. In their email they told me it would be a pleasure to help me and they would honor the cost if they found the problem to be from LNB". I did try to send it to England but would cost sweet $70 dollar so Instead I bought a 2nd one. This is called a customer service and standing behind product.

For what it's worth, I have had the channel problems with not getting a channel, then turning on my other Elite and getting the channel on both receivers. Deffenitly a bug somewhere.

no....you need to run a ground wire directly to your electrical panel or a grounding rod from your dish and switches....the dish and cables are NOT grounded simply by plugging in your reciever
