business owners?
I've been reading a great deal about FTA and Sat stuff for the last 2 weeks. Just trying to pick up a new hobby and learn something new. I've been doing computer and network stuff for a living for along time, it's kinda boring now, it's like breathing air. I noticed there aren't many or any retail stores for FTA type equipment to speak of. I've googled and yahooed Raleigh, NC can't find a single brick and mortar store that's not related to Direct TV or Dishnetwork. WHat gives? I've owned my owned business for years, I've never seen a satellite equipment store around anywhere? But the market seems so broad. what's up? any store owners on this forum? I don't mean website owners, but brick and mortar store owners? Just wondering where the market was and whos in it to make money. Would like to hear somones take on the FTA retail market and market as a whole.

Re: business owners?
You'll find that FTA stores are mail order! The major players dtv & dnet are always trying to prevent sales of such equipment, that they claim can be altered to pirate their signals. Therefore the last thing they want is someone coming after their customer list.

Hammerd it !!!!
I would never buy from any place in my own country let alone my own town.
There is currently a rumor going around (with some convincing evidence) that a big provider of IKS has been breached and many are just a bit nervous.
The outcome and the truth in the rumor is yet to be seen.
Its just to big a risk to have a store and the big boys all over you all the time.
JMO.
Good luck,
Sp0iler

Re: business owners?
The sale of the equipment is not illegal. Your 100% allowed to sell any type of fta receiver as long as your not the one providing third party software. You can sell the receivers plus the satellite equipment and other related hardware. You could merge one business with the other. Just do not get caught programming boxes in the store. Love to see where you heard an iks provider was breach, or even found....

Re: business owners?
I think its ashame that the market seems to be cornered by 2 companies, directtv and dishnet. i currently have dirttv, can't wait for the contract to end, so I can get away. the service was/is so bad.. took 3 months to find out HD wouldn't work, but yet they expected me to pay for it. (I don't think so)..be ****...every market has it's problems, look at microsoft..

Re: business owners?
I do know of one place that has a place where you can walk right in and purchase equipment. There is equipment is limited to certain items and I guess it is for legal reason. I am not sure. Here is the site satelliteav.com. You will notice that they advertise religious programming. There is even a network of installers that will ocme out and setup your dish and receiver to point at these religious stations.
You actually can walk in and purchase any dish that they have and receiver. All products are in stock.
I am not sure how amny other facilities there are like this in the US. I believe that ftapros which is a sponsor here claims to have a retail store but I cant confirm that.
