Sv8k + 1000.2 woes continue
Please help me get > 0 quality on my 1000.2; I have been at this for 3 weeks now.
I can't get quality when I try to aim at the satellites. There's a Dish 500 installed on the roof right next to mine (I'm in a loft with 16 units), and I can tap into that just fine and get 110 and 119. When I tap into my Dish 1000.2, I can't get any quality on any of the satellites no matter how hard I try. I answered an advertisement on craigslist to get my dish professionally pointed. He came by and worked on it for about 15 minutes with a signal meter and said that I was locked into 119, but I still had no quality. He suggested I purchase a DP44 switch because maybe it was a power issue. I installed the DP44 yesterday, and I still can't get quality. Now I have no idea what to do next. Let's review where I could be going wrong:
1. Receiver. This is not the problem because I am working great when I plug into the Dish 500 right next to my 1000.2 on the roof.
2. Cabling. This is not the problem for the same reason.
3. Power. DP44 with power inserter creates no improvement.
4. Aim. Despite the fact that I cannot get quality on the receiver itself, we are using the correct skew, elevation, and azimuth settings and we are peaking it out on a meter. It is just that this isn't translating to quality on the receiver.
5. ??? I don't know where to turn next.

Re: Sv8k + 1000.2 woes continue
Thanks for your help. All my settings are from dishpointer.com. My dish is in fact pointed in the same direction as the 500 right next to it which is giving me great quality. It is also peaked out on an analog meter.

Re: Sv8k + 1000.2 woes continue
The dish 1000.2 get three satellites 119,110,&129 if you are aligned right you should be getting the three sat. That dish has three lnb's which if aligned right will get the three sats 119.110.&129. So if you are not getting the three birds you are not aligned.

Yes I understand the idea behind aligning the 1000.2. What I am telling you is that I am aligned yet getting no quality.

Re: Sv8k + 1000.2 woes continue
Good deal, now what type of box or receiver do you have. It may be just a matter of changeing the type of LNB's in the menu of the box

sonicview 8000 -- my understanding is that the settings should not be different for a dish 500 and dish 1000.2

Re: Sv8k + 1000.2 woes continue
Go into Menu, then Install, then Dish Setting this is my set up and your should be like this.
Satellite ECHOSTAR 7 ECHOSTAR 8,X ECHOSTAR 129
LNB TYPE OCS-DP OCS-DP OCS-DP
LNB FREQUENCY 11250 11250 11250
22KHZ OFF OFF OFF
LNB POWER ON ON ON
TRANSPONDER 12239 12224 12224
SEARCH OPTION ALL ALL ALL
NETWORK SEARCH ON ON ON
DISEQC PORT 1 PORT 2 PORT 3
MOTOR DISABLE DISABLE DISABLE
LEGACY SWITCH OFF OFF OFF
AND YOU DO NOT NEED THAT 44 SWITCH UNLESS YOU ARE TRYING TO HOOK UP MORE THAN THREE RECEIVERS, THEN YOU WOULD USE THE 44 SWITCH.

Re: Sv8k + 1000.2 woes continue
These are the settings I am using for both the 500 and 1000.2. I realize that I do not *need* the DP44. I purchased it as a troubleshooting step in case it was a power issue.

Re: Sv8k + 1000.2 woes continue
hook the dish up direct, with no switches, diseqc or sp 44, if you get quality that way its probably the diseqc burnt up (always turn off your stb when working on connections, the diseqc switch is very sensitive), if you still have no quality and your sure your dish is pointed properly it has to be settings or a bad connection somewhere.
post back with results.

Re: Sv8k + 1000.2 woes continue
A couple of things tha haven't been mentioned...
Do you have the jumper connected from the 8000 to the 8psk? What setting do you have in the menu for the 8psk? Try it on External modual and also built in modual. Make sure that when looking at the connections of the LNB's, you are not connected to the connection on the far right. It is the LNB IN connection for a second dish.
Do you get the sat you are trying to scan listed at the upper right corner of the dish settings screen? If it is, and you still don't show quality, try scanning channels anyway. Post back your results after checking these things.

The only "bad connection" I see that could be left is a bad triple LNB itself. How common is that? (it's a new dish)

Hmmm, if you don't get the sat you are trying to scan, then you aren't pointed to the right sat. Do you have signal on those sats? If so, then your LNB's are working.
