Can't skew a round dish
I have a 30" round Wingard dish. I use a DishPro Plus Twin LNB. I'm aimed at both 110 and 119. Everything is hooked up and I aimed first at 119, got a Q=99. I then tried to pick up 110 and got a Q=39. I'm able to get just about all the channels but I'm concerned about the low 110 quality. I then moved the dish lowering my 119 quality to 90. The 110 quality came up to about 45-47.
Since I can't skew the dish, is there some other way to skew the LNB or something else I can try to raise both Quality numbers?

Re: Can't skew a round dish
I thought the Wineguard Dishes were skewable. If it cannot be skewed, then you cannot use that dish. That dish is suitable for use with a Motor or for one single Satellite.
Suggest you get a 1000.2 dish.

Re: Can't skew a round dish
mount one LNB on the arm and aim the dish at 119 to get the best possible Q....now get a big hose clamp or some cable ties/zip ties and attach the 110 LNB to the right side of the 119 LNB (when looking from behind the dish).....
you will need to position the 110 LNB so that it is slightly higher or slightly lower than the 119 LNB (higher or lower will depend upon your location).....move the 110 LNB up and down until you get the best possible Q......

Re: Can't skew a round dish
bill of oz - Unfortunately he has a Dish pro plus and thats the reason for his being unable to achieve what you are suggesting.
Anyway, just for information, the 110 LNB is mounted about 3/4" lower than the 119 LNB.

this will depend on the location as to how much lower or higher its mounted.....if you are in the east of NA then the 110 LNB needs to be mounted lower.....
if you are around the 115W line then no skew is nessessary and the LNBs can be mounted side by side and equal as the 110 and 119 birds will be at the same elevation......
if you are west of 115W then the 110 LNB needs to be mounted slightly higher then the 119 LNB......

Re: Can't skew a round dish
I'll try that tomorrow. How do I tell from lat long where I'm at. I'm at Latitude: 42.5588°Longitude: -83.7162°. Is that the 83.7 line?

Re: Can't skew a round dish
What is your Zip code so I can give you your co-ordinates for Elevation, Azimuth etc.

Your data is correct, but there are 2 problems:
The first problem:
The 83.7 line is qiute far from the 115 (thit is about the average dish aiming between 110 and 119. This would require a SKEW - as from dishpointer - of 29.1 degrees. This is qite a large is SKEW.
The second problem:
The 30" round Wingard dish is meant for a single LNB. The DPPlus Twin LNB and specifically the fixed distance between the 2 LNBs it is made of, is designed for a smaller dish, with a shorter arm and focal distance - dish 500.
The above problems make it practically impossible to find a reasonable solution for getting acceptable results for both satellite locations.
The options to be considered, in my opinion are:
Rplacing the LNB with 2 separate LNBs and adding a suitable bracket to enable individual adjustment of each LNB in all directions for optimizing the Q readings for each satellite indepenently.
or:
Getting a dish 500 (may be for free) and mounting your DPPlus Twin LNB on it.

Re: Can't skew a round dish
As earlier suggested and also by s2byus, get yourself either an older Dish 500 that way that dish can be skewed and you can use the existing LNB ie DPPlus.
Or get 2 Legacy Circular LNBs and connect one to the arm which will be 119 and the other strap it to the right of the 119 (looking at it from behind the dish, about 1" lower for your area and once you have 119 located and maximized for Q, then keep moving the 110 LNB up or down to maximize it's Q reading and tighten the clamp to keep it in place.
Your Co-ordinates are:
Elevation - 31.9 deg.
Azimuth (Magnetic) - 228.2 Deg (Using the compass)
Skew if possible - 60.9 or 119 deg Clockwise looking from behind.
Good luck.

Re: Can't skew a round dish
Ok, thought I'd let you know what I did. I found a Dish 500 on Craigslist that included a DP Plus Quad LNB. Installed it today and all is fine plus I got two unused outputs for future receivers.
Many thanks for the guidance and suggestions.
BYW now that I've got a 30" dish I'm not using plus a single circular LNB, a single linier LNB, a scratched up DP Plus dish, what can I put together to get more English speaking satellites? I'll probably sell the LNB's on ebay and the dishes on Craigs list if I don't get any good new channels. Suggestions?
