Question about dish specs

This may sound like a crazy question for some. I have a satellite shop and it is really hard to get dn dishes at a good price these days with all the fta...lol I am looking at buying some other dishes that is used in real fta. How much does the specs of the dish matter? As long as it is at least 20". Does the depth matter? I found a place to buy and they look really close to the dn dishes. Looks like the yoke would fit without doing anything to it. I did know if it would be best to buy 1 to try or not. I can buy these wholesale at a good price if they will work. Wasn't sure if anybody had ever tried this. Thanks for any help, it is always apperciated........

Re: about dish specs

Before deciding upon a Dish, decide what it is you are hoping to hit and what your budget looks like.

I would assume that if you own a sat shop, you have enough knowledge to know the answer to this. But obviously I'm mistaken.

Well first of all I have only delt with dn and directv. I am still learning. I have a small shop thats only open 3 days aweek. Kind of started out as a part time job. I have never delt with FTA. If I knew the answer I would have not ask it!!!!. Not sure why you post if youwere not going to try and help.

Sorry for not putting the sats. I am wanting to try it with dn..119/110. Does the specs need to be the same as the 500?

Re: about dish specs

The depth doesn't matter. That would just move the focal point in or out. I would think the most inportant part would be the dish being able to be skewd. I have a small sony dish that works great for 1 sat at a time, it doesn't skew. If I strap a lnb on it to get both 110 and 119, I get very good quality on a clear day. That quality dropped fast with bad weather. I would say the 2 extra inches wouldn't help that much. If you can skew the 20 inch dish, it would be a good replacement in my opinion.

Re: about dish specs

Thank you for your reply. I didn't think that the depth would matter but wanted to make sure. I will check on the skew for the dish I am looking at. After you said that I am not sure that it does but I will check. Your help is apperciated.
